New LSU athletics director Scott Woodward appeared on ESPN’s After Further Review with Matt Mascona and was asked about basketball coach Will Wade. Woodward says Wade has their support and backing and it will be that way until it’s not. He added that they hope Wade is LSU’s coach for a long time, but things change and minds change.

The state senate has approved legislation that would ban abortions when a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is five-to-six weeks into a pregnancy. Shreveport Senator John Milkovich says if his legislation gets the governor’s signature it will not immediately go into effect…

And the Mississippi law is currently facing a legal fight.

Over 700 measles cases have been reported in 22 states. So far, Louisiana has been spared. Assistant state health officer Doctor Joseph Kanter says of those national measles cases, over 72-percent were unvaccinated, which means some people who did get the vaccination are still coming down with the measles…

Measles were considered eliminated in 2000. Kanter says myths that vaccinations are tied to autism.

President Trump will visit a liquefied natural gas export facility in Cameron Parish next Tuesday to highlight his administration’s efforts to grow energy jobs. The president will tour Sempra Energy’s 10-billion dollar Cameron LNG Export Facility. Last month, the president issued a couple of executive orders that roll back regulations on energy production and promote fossil fuel development.

Alabama Coach Nick Saban will be on the Grambling State campus today for an event called “A Town Hall with Coach Nick Saban.” It’s part of the celebration to commemorate the 100th birthday of the late and legendary Grambling Coach Eddie Robinson.

It could have been one of the great comebacks in LSU baseball history, the Tigers hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the 9th inning to erase a 5 run deficit, but ended up losing 19-15 in 10 innings to Ole Miss. Coach Paul Mainieri says it was a wild game…

Ole Miss responded to the home barrage by LSU by scoring four runs in the 10th inning off of Devin Fontenot.

And there’s more bad news concerning LSU’s pitching. Mainieri told Tiger Rag’s James Moran that freshman starter Cole Henry will not make the trip to Fayetteville for the series at Arkansas.

At the state capitol today, the Senate Finance Committee began asking questions about possible renovations to the Superdome and if it’s in the best interest in the state to pay for them. Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District Commissioner Hilary Landry says investing into the Dome is a wise decision…

But Baton Rouge Senator Bodi White says there’s just not enough information available right now to make an informed decision about whether or not the state should fork over the cash for this sought-after renovation.

Today marks the 12 year anniversary of one of the longest, continually active criminal cases in the State Fire Marshal Office’s history.  In 2007 a Ruston home fire that resulted in the death of 25 year old Ronia Washington was determined to be arson and her death a homicide.  Fire Marshall Spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says it has been a multi-agency investigation for years.

Rodrigue says the family is offering a $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Rodrigue says over the years, people have had information, but they were afraid to say something.

The House Appropriations Committee approves a 30-billion dollar budget for next fiscal year that contains funding for a teacher pay raise that’s more than the governor’s proposed one-thousand dollar pay hike. Metairie Representative Cameron Henry says the state can do better than a one-thousand dollar raise…

Henry’s proposed budget does not include an additional 39-million dollars for school districts, which is funding that the governor wants to see included. New Orleans Representative Walt Leger says local school leaders say the extra money can go towards school supplies and teacher retirement costs…

Henry says school districts are receiving a lot of money, while teachers are underpaid…

The Superdome is hoping to complete a 450 million dollar renovation before the 2024 Superbowl, but questions abound about whos going to pay for it, and that sparked an animated discussion in Senate Finance today.

LSED Commissioner Hillary Landry says the renovation will spur more intrastate commerce.

But Metairie Senator Conrad Appel says a strong majority of economists agree that providing state and local subsidies to build stadiums for professional sports teams costs taxpayers more than any economic benefits that are generated. Appel says there’s better ways to spend a few hundred million dollars.

The Saints have agreed to pay for a third of the cost of the renovation.

Baton Rouge Senator Bodi White says there’s just not enough information available right now to make an informed decision about whether or not the state should fork over the cash for this sought-after renovation.

New Orleans Senator Wesley Bishop, whose district includes the Superdome, says lawmakers from outside of the Crescent City may be undervaluing just how important the structure is.

The debate over financing will likely take shape in full before the next legislative session.

Governor John Bel Edwards and New Orleans Mayor Latoya Cantrell announce a funding deal that will provide the city with 67.5 million dollars up front to fix streets and the drainage system.  Edwards says the agreement also calls for 26-million dollars in annual recurring funding…

For the agreement to be finalized, the legislature will need to approve three pieces of legislation. One of the bills would place a one-percent tax on hotel room rentals and another calls for nearly a seven-percent tax on short-term housing rentals.

Meanwhile, are news partner 710 KEEL in Shreveport is reporting Bossier Parish teachers could conduct a strike, a walk out or sick out this school year, because voters overwhelmingly rejected a tax proposal to fund teacher pay raises. 74-percent of the voters opposed the teacher salary hike proposal.

LSU baseball rallied back from a six-run deficit in the ninth inning with three consecutive home runs, but still lost to Ole Miss 19-15 in the 10th inning. The loss drops LSU into fourth place in the SEC West with a 14-10 record. Antoine Duplantis, who had five hits, including a three-run homer in the 9th, says with eight games left, they can’t have too many more losses…

LSU really needs to get it going. They are on the verge of not getting a bye for the SEC Tournament, but more importantly, the Tigers might be on the road again for an NCAA Regional.

Louisiana Tech is Conference USA champs in softball. The Lady Techsters defeated Southern Miss twice on their Senior Day to claim a share of the league title with North Texas. Tech will be the number two seed in the Conference USA tournament in Birmingham this week.

After getting swept by Alabama, LSU softball finished third in the SEC and they’ll be play Thursday in the SEC Tournament in College Station, Texas.

The Cajuns are the number one seed in the Sun Belt softball tournament and they’ll play Thursday afternoon. ULM is the eight seed and they’ll face Appalachian State in San Marcos, Texas on Wednesday.

A hearing is underway in Gonzales as federal investigators try to gain more answers into what happened when a barge with a large crane crashed into the Sunshine Bridge near Donaldsonville. Legal analyst Tim Meche says if the Coast Guard’s final report finds the operators negligent, they may be liable civilly or even criminally….

Gonzales Police say they arrested a 40-year-old Bogalusa man who they say stole an ambulance and claimed he took the vehicle from the Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, because he needed a ride home, after he was released from the hospital. Clayton Young Florane also allegedly damaged the ambulance by ramming into a concrete barrier in the parking lot of a convenience store in Sorrento.

Coast Guard investigators are holding a public hearing at this hour in Gonzales as they try to find out what happened when a barge crane hit the Sunshine Bridge in October, knocking the major roadway out of commission for several weeks. Legal analyst Tim Meche, says in previous investigations, such as the BP oil spill, the agency was very thorough, and resulted in criminal charges. He says it’s possible that can happen with this investigation…

Motown legend Diana Ross says she was violated by an airport screener at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans. In a series of tweets on Sunday, the singer says a T-S-A agent touched her between her legs and she can still feel it. The TSA says they reviewed the video and all protocols were followed correctly.
The House will hear a bill today that would allow minors to work eight straight hours without a break instead of the current five. Author of the bill, Shreveport Representative Raymond Crews says the current law discourages employers from hiring minors as the mandatory break can disrupt a fluid shift…
