Saints secondary coach Aaron Glenn says it is limitless what fourth round pick Chauncey Gardner-Johnson can do. Glenn made the comments after watching the former Florida standout during the team’s rookie minicamp practices this past weekend. Glenn predicts defensive coordinator Dennis Allen will make schemes based on Gardner-Johnson’s versatility.

Former LSU defensive tackle Davin Cotton announces he’s transferring to Southern University. The former Evangel standout played in just two games for the Tigers last season. He’s six-foot-four, 280 pounds and he was listed as the eighth best prospect in Louisiana’s 2018 class.

The LSU TAF Coaches Caravan stops at the Walk-On’s in Houma tonight from 6 to 8 PM. Coach Ed Orgeron, special teams coordinator Greg McMahon, Kevin Faulk and strength and conditioning coach Tommy Moffitt will be on hand.

After losing two of three to Arkansas this past weekend, the Tigers continue to fall in the college baseball polls. LSU fell six spots in the Baseball America poll to number 22. They fell four spots in the D-1 poll to number 19. LSU closes out the regular season this week, by hosting UNO tomorrow and then Auburn for a series that begins Thursday.

Louisiana Tech has clinched a spot in the Conference USA Tournament by sweeping Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs are at Mississippi State tomorrow and then FIU for a series that starts Thursday.

The Ragin Cajuns improved their chances of making the Sun Belt Tournament by sweeping Georgia State. UL-Lafayette is at ULM for the final regular season series of the year. The Warhawks just lost a series to Troy.

Southeastern Louisiana fell out of first place in the Southland after they were swept in a doubleheader to Sam Houston State. And Nicholls won its first Southland Series in March as they rallied from a seven-nothing deficit to beat Stephen F Austin 13-7.

One of them is a convicted murderer. 37-year-old Andrew Hundley was 15-years-old when he killed a 14-year-old in 1997 and sentenced to life in prison. But Hundley received a second chance at freedom when the Supreme Court made it unconstitutional to sentence juvenile defendants to a mandatory life sentence without parole.

When the full House convenes this afternoon, they will take up a bill to prohibit the use of hand held cell phones when behind the wheel. Breaux Bridge Representative Mike Huval has tried to get this bill to the governor’s desk for the last two years, but each time it’s stalled on the House floor. Huval says this time legislators have come to him to express support, after being educated about the effects of distracted driving.

On Senior Day at Ruston High School, Louisiana Tech swept a doubleheader from Western Kentucky to clinch a spot in the Conference USA Tournament. The Bulldogs won the games by the final scores of six to one and eight to three. The Bulldogs got great pitching performances from senior lefties David Leal and Logan Bailey. Tech will get ready to visit fifth ranked Mississippi State.

The Ragin Cajuns completed a sweep of Georgia State on Sunday by beating Georgia State 11 to 5. Handsome Monica’s three-run homer was the big blow. The Cajuns will wrap up the regular season next weekend by visiting ULM. The Warhawks just dropped two of three to Troy.

The LSU baseball team is tied for third place in the SEC West with Ole Miss heading into the final weekend of conference play. Thanks to a three-run homer by Antoine Duplantis, the Tigers salvaged a game in their series at Arkansas on Saturday with a three to two win. LSU will host UNO on Tuesday and then Auburn, starting on Thursday. LSU is on the bubble when it comes to hosting an NCAA Regional.

LSU softball has received a number 10 national seed and they’ll host a regional this weekend at Tiger Park. The Tigers will face Monmouth on Friday afternoon. Louisiana Tech, who won the Conference USA Title is the Baton Rouge Regional too and the Tech will face Texas Tech on Friday. Despite going 50-and-4, UL-Lafayette will not host a regional. Instead the Lady Cajuns head to Oxford as a two seed in a regional hosted by Ole Miss.

Southeastern Louisiana has fallen into a three-way tie for second place after getting swept by Sam Houston State. Northwestern State and McNeese are tied for fifth place. The Cowboys split a doubleheader with Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi. UIW swept a doubleheader from the Demons. Nicholls fell behind 7-0, but came back to beat Stephen F Austin 13-7 and the Colonels own the eighth and final spot in the Southland tournament with one more weekend to go.

Huval says Georgia recently passed a cellphone ban and the Peach State has seen a 15-percent reduction in commercial vehicle fatalities, and a four-percent reduction in all fatalities, which adds up to 50 lives saved due to the new law.

LSU baseball has a season-high five-game losing streak after losing to Arkansas 11 to six last night. The Tigers had a 3-0 lead after two innings after Saul Garza hit a two-run homer. But LSU’s bats went away for several innings and Zack Hess couldn’t repeat the relief outing he had last week. Hess entered in the 5th inning with LSU leading 3-1 and he gave up three runs in two innings. Arkansas put the game out of the reach when they scored six runs in the eighth. LSU has allowed 56 runs in the last four games.

Southeastern Louisiana pitcher Corey Gaconi threw a complete game shutout as the Lions blanked Sam Houston State 3-0 to move into sole possession in the Southland Conference with five league games left. Gaconi allowed four hits and struck out six. Preston Faulkner’s home run off the foul pole in left field snapped a scoreless tie in the 7th inning.

The Cajuns opened their series with Georgia State by blanking the Panthers two-zip. Jack Burk threw five innings to get the win and Austin Perrin earned a four-inning save.

Troy thumped ULM 15-4. La Tech lost to Western Kentucky five to four. McNeese defeated Texas A-and-M Corpus Christi 5-2. Stephen F Austin knocked off Nicholls five to one and Northwestern State defeated Incarnate Word seven to six. J-P Lagreco hit two home runs and drove in five runs.

In college basketball, LSU and Louisiana Tech will play each other in an exhibition game at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston on November second. The game will benefit tornado relief efforts.

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee has proposed moving the three point line back to the international basketball distance which is just beyond 22-feet. The current three-point line is just under 21 feet. Another panel still must approve it, but it could go into effect next season.

LSU baseball really needs a good start from Eric Walker tonight as the Tigers will look to even up their series against Arkansas. The Razorbacks routed the Bayou Bengals 14 to four last night as Arkansas hit five home runs. LSU has now allowed 45 runs over the last three games, the most in a three-game span since 1997. That team went on to win a national championship. This year’s team has lost four in a row and is four games back of the Hogs for first place in the SEC West. First pitch tonight is at 630.

A rookie mini-camp is underway for the Saints. The team announced earlier today that all five players of their 2019 draft class have signed four-year contracts. Second round pick, center Erik McCoy could be a starter next season.

Because of all of the rain, action at the the LHSAA Baseball state tournament in Sulphur has been pushed back until Sunday. Championship games will be Monday and Tuesday.

Because of the accumulation of rain and the threat of inclement weather, Louisiana Tech has made the decision to play its baseball series at Ruston High School instead of ULM. Tonight’s game will start at 6 PM. Game times for Saturday and Sunday will be announced at a later time.

According to research from Move.org, Louisiana is the third least expensive state to be a new mom. Move.org spokesperson Cosette Jarrett says their study factored the cost of childcare for the first year of a child’s life as well as the medical cost of delivery.

Only two other states have lower costs as Mississippi is the cheapest $11,364 and Alabama is second at $11,522.  Jarrett says the breakdown of the basic costs came down to two contributing price tags.

Jarrett says at $12,103, the combined Louisiana cost of childbirth and childcare is cheaper than daycare alone in DC, Massachusetts, New York and Connecticut.

Flash flood watches are in effect across Louisiana through Saturday as another two to four inches of rain is expected. Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness spokesperson Mike Steele says keep a close eye on the roads, and do not attempt to cross flooded streets…

The same system has already caused localized flooding in the northwestern portions of the state, flooding the required rescue operations.

Steele says if at all possible, reschedule your plans for the next two days.

Senator John Kennedy is once again bringing legislation aimed at getting dead people off the social security rolls. The Republican says every year the federal government spends 144 billion dollars on improper payments, through Social security, Medicare, and other social programs.

Kennedy says his legislation would address the long running issue by tackling the two biggest drivers of fraud, starting with Social Security’s list of deceased citizens…

House Ways and Means will hear a bill Monday that would repeal the .45 percent state sales tax levied in the last legislative session to plug a budget deficit. But Haughton Representative Dodie Horton says the nearly half-a-cent sales tax is producing a surplus..

The state sales tax was four percent for many years before Governor Edwards took office, and in his first year it jumped to five percent to cover a significant budget gap, before falling to 4.45 percent last year. But Horton says census figures show our population is declining…

State census figures indicate the population fell by 10,840 residents between July 2017 and July 2018.

Removing that .45 percent sales tax would likely mean cuts to state services, but Horton says Louisiana needs to learn to live within it’s means.
