Saints Quarterback Drew Brees says the plan is for him to suit up and play Sunday in the Dome against the Cardinals, potentially his first game action since injuring his hand against the Rams week two. The QB says he’ll track his progress in practice this week, but if he feels ready, Sean Payton will play him. Brees says he will have to wear a brace to protect his surgically repaired hand….

LSU’s offense has a chance to be even more potent this Saturday. Injured wide receiver Terrace Marshall did not wear a non-contact jersey at practice for the first time yesterday, so he looks ready to play this Saturday.

In recruiting news, LSU receives a commitment from five-star tight end Arik Gilbert from Marietta Georgia. That brings LSU’s 2020 class to 22 commitments and is rated third in the country behind number one Clemson and number two Alabama. The class also features three five-star prospects, Gilbert, California cornerback Elias Ricks and wide receiver Rakim Jarrett.

For the first time ever, Louisianans can dispose of their vaping and e-ciagarette devices and cartridges, along with unused medications on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday. Assistant State Health Officer Dr. Joseph Kanter says there will be no questions asked as to the type of vape products turned in.

The state also reports there have been 25 cases associated with a national outbreak of lung injury cases due to vaping products.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees says he plans to play this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals. Brees told reporters that he threw a lot today and feels good, but he still needs to make sure he feels like himself all week.

There were some positives in last night’s season-opening loss to the Raptors as Toronto topped New Orleans 130-122. Brandon Ingram looked good in his first regular-season game with the Pels, 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists. New Orleans bench outscored Toronto 56 to 23, but Jrue Holiday had just 13 points and the Pels had 19 turnovers. New Orleans home opener is Friday against Dallas.

Tonight in Houston, the Astros need to win to even up the World Series at one game apiece. Rough game for former LSU star Alex Bregman in Game One as he went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts as the Nationals held on a for five to four victory. Tonight’s pitching matchup is a good one, Justin Verlander for the Stros and the Nats will have Stephen Strasburg toe the rubber.

LSU continues preparations today for Auburn, who they will face on Saturday at 2:30. In two and a half weeks the Tigers will tangle with top-ranked Alabama, but Bayou Bengals safety Jacoby Stevens says they know they can’t look past Auburn…

LSU Coach Ed Orgeron said today on the SEC teleconference that wide receiver Terrace Marshall Junior will be ready to go for this Saturday. Marshall has missed three games since breaking his foot versus Vandy.

Two of Louisiana Tech’s best receivers are expected to play this Saturday against UTEP. Redshirt junior Adrian Hardy missed the Southern Miss game, while Isaiah Graham only played in a few plays. But Coach Skip Holtz says if everything goes ok this week, they should be able play against the Miners.

Baton Rouge TV stations are reporting the arrest of a high-ranking Livingston Parish Sheriff’s deputy and his wife, who is a school teacher in Livingston. The teacher, Cynthia Perkins, was booked on child porn and child rape charges. Her husband, Daniel Perkins has been charged with obstruction of justice. The A-G’s office is handling the investigation.

A mother claims that an officer with the Carencro Police Department broke the wrist of her autistic son during an encounter last week. The woman says police went too far when they came to their apartment complex after receiving complaints about her son, David Moody. Police Chief David Anderson says it’s not the first time they’ve dealt with Moody…

The new-look Pelicans were unable to start the season last night with a victory as the defending champion Toronto Raptors outlasted New Orleans 130 to 122. Brandon Ingram led the Pels with 22 points, while Josh Hart had 15 points and 10 rebounds, but Coach Alvin Gentry says the 19 turnovers that led to 22 Toronto points were the difference in the game…

New Orleans returns home to host Dallas on Friday night. Also, Pelicans Executive vice president of basketball operations, David Griffin denies claims that Zion Williamson’s weight led to him needing knee surgery. Griffin says he expects Zion will recover well.

Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat says Edwards hopes the ad will pick off disillusioned conservatives who voted for Abraham but can’t stomach Rispone.

Louisiana’s Insurance Commissioner is warning motorists looking for a used car to be on the lookout for vehicles flooded in Texas by Tropical Storm Imelda. Insurance department spokesperson John Tobler says in Louisiana if a vehicle is flooded and totaled the vehicles have to submit a certificate of destruction, but that’s not the case in Texas.

State Police say they’ve apprehended a Raceland man and charged him with his 10th DWI. Senior Trooper Jesse LaGrange says 34-year-old Jessie Jospeh was driving 89 miles per hour in a 70-mile per hour speed zone when was pulled over and subsequently failed a standard sobriety test. LaGrange says hopefully the judicial system can put Joseph behind bars…

Two men are charged in connection with the theft of two new tractors in Sabine Parish. Both 38-year old Stephen Morton of Shreveport and 41-year old Michael Bayonne of Alexandria are in custody. The two tractors valued $80-thousand dollars, are still missing. Strain says owners of ag equipment should keep detailed records of their property.

State Police arrest 34-year-old Jessie Joseph III of Raceland for the man’s tenth DWI arrest.  Senior Trooper Jesse LaGrange says Joseph was clocked going 89 in a 70 mph zone.

Temps are noticeably beginning to cool throughout the state.  State Climatologist Barry Keim says the state is under a high-pressure system that originated over the north Pacific bringing colder air with it.
