The LSU men’s basketball team ended a two-game losing streak last night with an 82-78 win over Missouri. Darius Days had 20 points and 10 rebounds as he scored seven points in the final five minutes. LSU is now 9-2 in the SEC. Six of their league wins have been by four points or less.

Zion Williamson exploded for 31 points in 28 minutes last night as New Orleans defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 138 to 117. J-J Redick had 20 points, Josh Hart added 17 for the Pels, who have won three in a row.

The Associated Press continues to examine the Saints deep ties with the Catholic Church. The A-P has learned that the Bensons’ foundation has given at least 62-million dollars to the Archdioces of New Orleans and other Catholic causes over the past dozen years. Attorneys for about two dozen men accuse the NFL franchise of of trying to conceal the names of certain clery accused of sexual abuse. In a statement, Saints Owner Gayle Benson denies those claims.

Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre says one of two individuals who jumped from a moving party bus early Saturday morning has died. 21-year-old Austin Jenkins has passed away from his injuries, while his 19-year-old brother remains in critical condition. Sheriff Webre calls the incident a tragic accident.

Three teenagers have been arrested for the murder of 20-year-old Adrian Carradine of Bossier City, including a high school basketball star. Bossier City Police spokesperson Traci Landry says their investigation began Monday night when an officer patrolling a neighborhood saw gunfire coming from a vehicle…

Legislative leaders tell the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry that they’ll push to reform the state’s lawsuit climate in an effort to lower auto insurance rates. The Senate stymied tort reform efforts last year, but Senate President Page Cortez doesn’t expect that to be the case this year

New Senate President Page Cortez says the legislature is ready to tackle tort reform in the upcoming legislative session as Republican lawmakers seek to change the legal climate to reduce the number of lawsuits against insurance companies. But trial lawyers have historically been major funders in Louisiana politics and stand to lose work if proposed jury trial limits pass. Cortez says he’s not concerned their cash will derail the effort.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s office releases a report that alerts legislative leaders the state is not doing enough to manage its water resources. Audit Manager Gina Brown says strain on the state’s aquifers is growing, with 49 percent of current usage going to energy production, 25 percent to industry, and 12 percent heading to irrigation.

LSU basketball trailed by 12 points late in the first half but scored 45 points in the second half to beat Missouri 82-78. All five starters scored in double figures led by Skylar Mays who had 23 points. LSU is at Alabama Saturday.

LSU and Florida State have agreed to kick-off the seasons in 2022 and 2023 playing against each other in games that will take place in New Orleans and Orlando. The Superdome will host the first match-up on Sunday, September 4th, 2022. The contract says the two schools will receive five-point-one million dollars if they sell their full allotment of 30-thousand tickets.

LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron told a Baton Rouge radio station that he anticipates new passing game coordinator Scott Linehan and offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger will be a great combination with the former NFL coach helping with third-down and red zone game planning.

In college basketball tonight, Northwestern State seeks its third straight win as they host Incarnate Word to a start a three-game homestand. Nicholls looks to stay in second place in the Southland as the Colonels host Lamar.

Also tonight, Southeastern hosts Sam Houston, UNO is at Central Arkansas and Tulane hosts Temple.

The Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office has released a report raising concerns about a decline water levels because of drought or over-pumping, which in turn have resulted in low surface water flows, impaired surface water quality and degraded groundwater quality due to saltwater intrusion in some areas. Audit Manager Gina Brown says to save water for future generations, they recommend the adoption of a Texas-style creation of “water regions”…

State Police is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Lafayette. The deceased has been identified at 40-year old Jeremy Todd Baham of Lafayette. Trooper Thomas Gossen says the shooting happened last night on Kaliste Saloom Road.

Gossen says two officers approached Baham and that’s when things got physical and took a turn.

North Louisiana remains under a flash flood watch until six pm tomorrow night and two school systems canceled classes today due to flooding, Morehouse and West Carroll Parish Schools. National Weather Service Meteorologist Nicholas Fenner says northeast Louisiana has already seen a lot of rain

The Ouachita Parish Police Jury has declared a state of emergency as the Monroe area braces for flooded roads and rivers. Fenner says there is an elevated risk for flash flooding…

The Army Corps of Engineers announces a plan to spend $85 million this year to deepen the lower Mississippi River to 50 feet.  Port of New Orleans spokesperson Matt Gresham says the initial phase will see work done on the first 30 miles of the river.

The goal is to deepen the river to 50 feet.  Gresham says that allows for several southeast Louisiana ports to accept larger cargo ships built to take advantage of the Panama Canal’s expansion.

The Corps estimates a national economic benefit of $127.5 million annually.  It’s a project that has been pushed for a long time and Gresham says a study indicated that improvements offer an 80-to-1 cost-to-benefit ratio.

The project is expected to cost nearly $240 million, with the state covering more than $100 million, with an annual maintenance cost of $17.7 million.

The 2022 season opener will take place in the Superdome in New Orleans and the following year the two teams will meet in Orlando. LSU Football Coach Ed Orgeron has hired former Rams head coach Scott Linehan to be the Tigers new passing game coordinator. Linehan has also been a former offensive coordinator in Dallas, Minnesota, Miami and Detroit, working with quarterbacks like Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford. Linehan has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal, worth 800-thousand dollars.

Taysom Hill tells an Associated Press reporter that he views himself as a franchise quarterback and if the Saints do not, he’ll have to leave. The versatile Hill is a restricted free agent this offseason and the Saints have hinted Hill could be the guy, if Drew Brees decides to retire.

The Pelicans host Portland tonight at seven PM. New Orleans will attempt to slow down the red hot Damian Lillard, who is averaging almost 42 points and nine assists in the last ten games. Both teams are chasing Memphis for the final playoff spot in the West.
