The Tigers are set to play at Arkansas tomorrow, but there are positive cases within the Razorback football program. With contact tracing Coach Sam Pittman’s team is running low on available players. The Pelicans have tendered a nine-point-four million dollar qualifying offer to All-Star Brandon Ingram, which makes him a restricted free agent. The free agency period begins tonight at 5 PM. It’s expected New Orleans will sign a center.

Saints running back Alvin Kamara did not practice for a second straight day yesterday because of a foot injury. But Kamara spoke with the media yesterday afternoon and said he’s good to go.

A terrible 30-24 loss for Tulane last night as they blew a 14-point second half lead to 25th ranked Tulsa as the Golden Hurricane tied the game on a Hail Mary as time expired and then won it in double O-T on a pick six. The Greenies fall to 5-5.

In high school football last night, it was Oak Grove over Cedark Creek 52-22, Carenco won over Westgate 31-23.

Saints Coach Sean Payton is not saying who will start at quarterback for the injured Drew Brees in Sunday’s home game against the Atlanta Falcons. It could be either Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill. Payton says they will play to the strengths of whoever is under center….

The Arkansas football program is dealing with a coronavirus cases and contact tracing and Coach Sam Pittman said today they need good results tomorrow to play Saturday.

There is a college football game tonight, Tulane is at 25th ranked Tulsa. Last week the Green Wave beat Army, who was ranked in the coaches poll. A win tonight would give Tulane it’s first season with wins against two ranked teams for the first time since 1979.

The Pels had four other picks, but all of those selections are involved in trades that will be finalized soon.

Former LSU Tiger and Baton Rouge native Skylar Mays was selected in the second round by the Atlanta Hawks.

There’s growing concern that high school athletics could be shut down again as more schools move to virtual learning and coronavirus cases continue to spike. But LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine (Bo-nine) says he didn’t like shutting down track, baseball and softball last spring and does not plan on doing it again…

LSU interim president Thomas Galligan released a statement today saying its troubling to face the prospect LSU may have mishandled alleged cases of abuse and sexual assault. It’s in response to a USA Today article that provided several examples of LSU not following through on social misconduct allegations.

Pfizer will reportedly file paperwork tomorrow with the Food and Drug Administration for emergency approval of its coronavirus vaccine that’s shown 95-percent effectiveness. It’s possible the vaccine could be made available to Louisiana next month. Governor John Bel Edwards says they have a plan in place but there are some challenges…

A family spokesperson for Edwin Edwards says the former four term-Governor appears to be improving but remains hospitalized with double pneumonia. This is the second time the 93-year old has been admitted in the last week. Edwards’ biographer Leo Honeycutt says despite Edwards’ age and diagnosis he’s doing well.

Drugmaker Pfizer will reportedly plan to file as early as tomorrow for emergency use with the FDA for their COVID-19 vaccine. Governor John Bel Edwards says he’s 100-percent confident once vaccines are FDA approved, they are safe for use.

The number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital rose sharply today from 886 to 929.

Mandeville Representative Richard Nelson says expects debate on tax reform during the 2021 regular session. Nelson would like to see the state income tax repealed and give parishes greater flexibility to raise property taxes to offset revenue losses on the local level…

Former Governor Edwin Edwards is back in the hospital today. His biographer, Leo Honeycutt, says the 93-year-old has been diagnosed with double pneumonia and is expected to remain in the hospital for the next few days. He was in the hospital over the weekend as well but released after he was treated for a head cold.

Representative Mike Johnson is moving up the GOP ranks in Congress as he’s been elected as the vice-chair of the House Republican Conference. The state health department has reported 22-hundred new coronavirus cases today bringing the state’s total to nearly 210-thousand. Louisiana is also reporting 28 more COVID-19 deaths and the number of COVID-19 patients has increased by 12.

As COVID cases continue to spike, the state health department says flu wise the state is in good shape. Brooke Thorington has more.

Tonight is the NBA draft and the Pelicans have already pulled off a big move as they look to build around young stars Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. New Orleans has reportedly traded veteran guard Jrue Holiday to Milwaukee, but in return they receive Eric Bledsoe, George Hill and three first round picks. The host of the Locked On Pelicans podcast, Jake Madison, says the Pels did well in the trade…

The Pels have two first round picks tonight, the 13th and 24th selection. Madison says New Orleans could make a trade in order to get in the top ten.

The Saints return to work today as they get ready for Sunday’s game against the Falcons. New Orleans has won six in a row, while the Falcons have played better since firing head coach Dan Quinn. Quarterback Drew Brees is reportedly getting a second medical opinion to determine the full scope of his chest injuries and to get a better idea on how much time he’ll miss.

LSU players say a team meeting called by junior wide Terrace Marshall has the team re-energized as they get ready to play the second half of the season. The Tigers have not played a game since losing to Auburn on October 31st. Offensive Guard Ed Ingram says Marshall told the team to get focused as they visit an improved Arkansas team this Saturday

Acadiana’s loss to Catholic on Saturday night has dropped the Wreckin Rams to number four in the latest Class 5A poll. Brother Martin is the new number one ranked team, followed by Rummel and Catholic. Brother Martin hosts sixth ranked John Curtis on Friday. Playoff pairings come out on Sunday.

U-S Representative Cedric Richmond announced today he will resign from his 2nd district Congressional seat before January 20th to become a senior adviser to President-Elect Joe Biden. Richmond says he’ll have an office in the West Wing and he says he’ll fight to bring much-needed federal resources to Louisiana.
