According to the 2027 Niche rankings The Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts in Natchitoches is ranked number one in the country for the best public high school teachers. LSMSA faculty members are required to have at least a master’s degree in the subjects they teach, and 85-percent have a Ph.D., M-F-A or another terminal degree in their field. LSMSA Executive Director Doctor Jason Anderson says that level of expertise makes the faculty…

LSMSA has 287 students from across Louisiana.

Baton Rouge is among the finalists to become the permanent home of the National High School Football Hall of Fame. The capitol city was nominated by Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. Pittsburgh, Steubenville, Ohio; and Valdosta, Georgia round out the other finalist– none of which, according to Nungesser could compete with Baton Rouge.

LSU coach Lane Kiffin said that he would be cautious playing quarterback Sam Leavitt against McNeese tonight. WAFB Sports Director Jacques Doucet says the situation reminds him of Garrett Nussmeier starting against Southeastern last season while he dealt with nagging injuries. He thinks LSU should keep Leavitt on the sideline but says that adds another risk.

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser nominated Baton Rouge and  says landing the National High School Football Hall of Fame would be a huge win for Baton Rouge and Louisiana.

In an effort to help reach patients during large crowd events like LSU Football games the East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Medical Services has deployed 20 new bikes for it’s medics. EMS officer Brad Harris says the EMS bicycle team rides ahead to reach patients first, stabilize them and then allow ambulances and other rescue vehicles to follow. The agency says they have already proven useful at LSU football games this season handling about 70 calls at the first LSU home game, 60 at the second and 50 at the most recent game.

There are several college football games in the state today, will the weather cooperate? Andrew Greenstein reports.

According to the Louisiana Department of Education high school students are earning improved scores on advanced placement exams.  Nearly 70% of the AP exams that Louisiana students took this year received a score of 3 or higher on a five-point scale. Despite these gains Louisiana students still remain less likely than their peers nationally to have access to college-level courses.

The Louisiana Cattle Festival returns to downtown Abbeville for the 76th year. The festival official kicked-off Friday, but continues throughout the weekend, celebrating south Louisiana’s cattle industry. Today, you can expect ice cream and rib eating contests, a whip cracking contest, a parade and more.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested a 13-year-old student after a gun was found inside Evergreen Junior High in Houma. Officers placed the school on lockdown Friday after learning a student might have a firearm. During a search, police found the student in a boys’ bathroom with a loaded handgun. No injuries were reported. The student is now detained at the Terrebonne Parish Juvenile Justice Complex pending a court appearance.

Zero hurricanes in the Atlantic through the end of September is certainly rare. So, if we get through 2026 without a single hurricane but a hurricane somehow forms in the Atlantic in early 2027, does that still mean we got through the entire hurricane season without a hurricane for the first time ever in the satellite era? LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim Keim says even though he feels there’s a gray area, the National Hurricane Center has its standard.

Fresh off their come from behind road win against the Baltimore Ravens the Saints welcome the undefeated Las Vegas Raiders to town for their home opener. The Raiders come into the Superdome having beaten the Dolphins and the Chargers in their first two games of the season. Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore says this Raiders team is not the same one that finished with the NFL’s worst record a year ago.

A pair of LSU fraternities are being investigated on hazing allegations and code of conduct violations. The university has placed interim suspensions on the Delta Kappa Epsilon and Phi Gamma Delta chapters. Representatives from each chapter will meet with an LSU dean of students designee, and the hearings may result in the revocation, continuance, or modification of the suspensions.

LSU hosts Texas A&M tonight as the Tigers look to bounce back from a loss to Ole Miss last week. The Tigers’ offense struggled on the road as the Rebels’ pass rush disrupted the passing game. Coach Lane Kiffin said on his LSU Radio coaches show that needs to be fixed.

LSU filed a motion to dismiss the SEC’s lawsuit against the university, saying that the SEC is in no imminent harm after fifth-year players were not rostered. The SEC filed its initial complaint earlier in September, saying that LSU created a “competitive imbalance” and violated the conference’s First Amendment rights by attempting to sign players who declared for the NFL Draft. Attorney General Liz Murrill also issued a statement calling the lawsuit “improper and moot.” The conference said it is preparing its response in court.

We’re now in the last weekend of September, and we still have had zero hurricanes in the Atlantic all year long. There are currently two tropical storms churning in the Atlantic, both closer to Africa than North America, and neither is expected to strengthen into hurricanes. LSU Health Climatologist Barry Keim says we have never gone this late in the year without a hurricane in the Atlantic in the satellite area, but hurricanes can form at any time of the year, not just June through November.

LSU hosts Texas A&M tonight as the Tigers look to bounce back from a loss to Ole Miss last week. Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed has given defenses fits with his dynamic rushing ability, especially the Tigers. In six quarters, he has scored seven total touchdowns against LSU. Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin says dual-threat quarterbacks are hard to stop.

A Friday night high school football game between the Oberlin Tigers and Centerville Bulldogs was canceled at halftime following a fight involving members of Oberlin’s coaching staff. According to Oberlin Police Chief Grady Haynes, head coach Robert Etheridge and assistant coach Jaden Brasseaux got into an argument on the sidelines before halftime, then exchanged punches in the locker room, where a desk was also overturned. The incident occurred during Oberlin’s Homecoming festivities. Centerville was declared the winner, 36-6.

Fall officially begins next week and some relief from the heat could be on the way. LSU health climatologist Barry Keim says signs of the change in season can be noticed with a drop in the humidity level bringing morning lows down to the upper 60s and lower 70s…

Republican U-S Senator Bill Cassidy is not in support of President Trump’s proposal to give every adult American five-thousand dollars if the Republican Party maintains control of Congress after the mid-term elections. Cassidy says the five-thousand-dollar dividend will actually cost Americans more money, because it will increase the U-S national debt, which is at 40-trillion dollars…

Several Republican lawmakers have spoken out against President Trump’s five-thousand dollar payments to Americans. Senate Majority Leader John Thune has not endorsed it. Senator Bill Cassidy says dividend checks will increase the cost of living as it will raise borrowing costs and inflation…

The Saints travel to Baltimore to face the Ravens on Sunday. It will be the 2026 debut for running back Alvin Kamara and defensive end Cameron Jordan, as both have been ruled fully available. Saints head coach Kellen Moore says Kamara will split carries with Travis Etienne and Kendre Miller.

Wide receiver Chris Olave and edge rusher Chase Young are both questionable.

The game that has been talked about for months is finally here as seventh ranked LSU visits eighth ranked Ole Miss in a huge matchup to begin the SEC schedule for both teams. Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin is well aware of the abilities of the Rebels two big playmakers on offense, Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy…

LSU fans are hitting the road to support the Tigers in Oxford this weekend. Record crowds are expected for the top-10 clash between LSU and Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin’s homecoming. Sally Steil with the LSU Alumni Association says she’s already heard from thousands of fans.
