The state is facing a looming one-billion dollar budget deficit, because temporary sales taxes are set to expire. Governor John Bel Edwards says he’s having positive meetings with legislators and business leaders over how the state can close the budget gap…

Edwards says Louisiana finished with a 143-million dollar surplus for last fiscal year, but the state constitution prevents using that money on a budget deficit.
