LSU hosts Texas A&M this weekend in what could almost be an elimination game for the College Football Playoff after both teams lost their SEC openers. The Aggies lost to Kentucky 31-21 last week and coach Mike Elko says it was one of the worst defensive performances in his time in College Station.
The tenth-ranked Tigers host the number 23 Aggies at 6:30 on Saturday.
LSU Basketball legend Bob Pettit died yesterday at the age of 93, his family announced today. The Baton Rouge High School product was a three-time All-SEC selection at LSU and led the Tigers to their first Final Four in 1953. He was the first player to win the NBA’s MVP in 1956 and won it again in 1959. He made league history by becoming the first player to surpass the 20,000 career points milestone.
Former LSU and Saints receiver Barion Brown missed a second straight practice with a hamstring injury today. Cornerback Martin Emerson and D-tackle Christen Miller were also sidelined with injuries, and running back Kendre Miller was out with an illness as New Orleans prepares for its home opener against the Raiders. Safety Jonas Sanker, D-tackle Nathan Shepherd and defensive end Chase Young were all full participants after being limited yesterday.
McNeese head coach Matt Viator announced that quarterback Devin Lippold will be out for the remainder of the season with a wrist injury he suffered in the Cowboys’ 27-10 loss UTRGV. Lippold took over as the starting quarterback after Jake Strong went down with an injury to his throwing shoulder. Strong filled in when Lippold went down last week and is expected to start Saturday against East Texas A-and-M
The Pelicans are signing forward Julian Reese to a two-way deal. The brother of former LSU star Angel Reese averaged nearly 12 points and over 10 rebounds a night in 13 games with the Wizards last year. He was college teammates with Pels center Derik Queen at Maryland.
