The Louisiana Department of Health awards more than two-million dollars to U-L Lafayette as part of its initiative to improve health care in rural areas. Almost 1.6-million dollars of that money will go to the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The dean of that college, Dr. Lisa Broussard, says the goal is to prepare student nurses to become practitioners in rural areas.
Broussard says grant money will also be used to build an AI based geographic information system to help rural clinics to indicate what services are needed where those services are most needed.
We’re about three weeks into shrimping season, and many Louisiana shrimp boats remain docked. Acy Cooper, the president of the Louisiana Shrimp Association, says it’s a sign of troubled times for the industry.
Cooper says imported shrimp is killing the domestic shrimping industry and he’s written the President urging him to issue an executive order that would put a cap on the amount of imported shrimp that can come into the U-S.
Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of Nine-Eleven. Mike Foster was Louisiana’s governor at the time and was in Lexington, Kentucky that day for a meeting of Southern governors when two planes flew into the Twin Towers in New York City.
