A tropical storm warning is in effect in Cameron Parish as a storm that’s expected to become Tropical Storm Edouard is approaching. Joe Gallinaro reports.

The family of the teenager who fell to his death at the dilapidated Plaza Tower in New Orleans plans to sue the building’s owners. Jeff Palermo has the story.

A tropical storm warning is now in effect in Cameron Parish. National Weather Service Meteorologist Donald Jones says it’s issued as a storm which is expected to become Tropical Storm Edouard has formed in the northern Gulf of Mexico and is making its way to the Louisiana-Texas line.
As of one this afternoon, the storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 35 miles an hour, just below the tropical storm threshold; and it’s expected to make landfall near the state line sometime tomorrow. Jones says since the storm formed so close to land, there’s almost no chance of it intensifying to hurricane strength.

Jones says since this is a tropical storm, winds will not be the biggest threat.
Those along the coast should prepare for storm surge of between one to three feet.

The family of a teenager who died earlier this month in the dilapidated Plaza Tower, located in the Central Business District of New Orleans, is planning to take legal action against the owners of the abandoned building. Seventeen-year-old Jacque St. Ann of Belle Chasse was with a group of friends when he fell to his death on August 15th. The family’s attorney is James Williams.
Williams says there was inadequate fencing around the building when St. Ann and a group of his classmates went urban exploring inside the 45-story Plaza Tower. Attorney Cedric Richmond says the fencing has improved, but the building should have been more secure.

The skyscraper has been abandoned since 2002. There has been talk about demolishing it, but at a 28-million-dollar cost. The property is legally owned by Alexandra Land and Development. Richmond says the owners, the company that manages the building and the business that provides security could all be named defendants in a likely lawsuit filed on behalf of St. Ann’s family.

If it seems that people are working later in life, you’re right. In fact, according to a survey by resume builder MyPerfectResume, in the last three years, 35-percent of U.S. workers say they have pushed out their planned retirement age. Fourteen-percent say they plan on working until at least 70 years old, and another 14-percent say they do not plan on retiring at all. LSU New Orleans business professor Mark Rosa says affordability has a lot to do with it.
Rosa says inflation has gotten so bad that people are raiding their retirement accounts just to meet their monthly obligations.

It’s also important to note that under Social Security Administration rules, full retirement comes at age 67, and people can earn the maximum benefit by waiting to retire until turning 70 years old. Rosa says because of inflation, Social Security, 401-k’s and other investments might not be enough to make ends meet.

Rosa says another factor is the health benefits that older workers enjoy through their employers.
