Governor Landry is on pace to obliterate the record for executive orders issued by a single governor. In less than three years, Landry has issued 406 of them – just 35 shy of the record 441 issued by Edwin Edwards in his four non-consecutive terms. LaPolitics Weekly publisher Jeremy Alford says Landry’s frequent use of executive orders has largely gone unquestioned and unchallenged.

The Board of Regents approves a series of policy changes to crack down on hazing and bullying. Higher Education Commissioner Kim Hunter Reed says the board updated its Uniform Policy on Power-Based Violence to crack down on incidents in which modern technology is used to bully others.

Cut 5 (10) “…treated as such.”

The Krewe of Dolly is remembering Dolly Parton. Krewe spokeswoman Sarah Post says the organization works with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to provide books to children in New Orleans, and that work will continue.

Cut 14 (08) “…come down there.”

Next weekend, the Krewe of Dolly will do a celebration of life second line in memory of the country music superstar on September 5th – “9/5,” as in “9 to 5.”

Of course, Dolly famously performed with the marching band at Northwestern State back in 1988. The Demons could have used her encouragement last night, as they lost to NAIA Louisiana Christian, 42-37. It’s just the 13th time that an NAIA team beat an FCS team. And that wasn’t the only upset of the night – Houston Christian went into Hammond and beat Southeastern Louisiana, 34-28. Southeastern entered the game ranked 19th in the country in FCS. That ranking, undoubtedly, will be short-lived.
