The funeral of legendary former Southern baseball coach and player Roger Cador will be held in the F.G. Clark Activity Center at 6:00 this evening with public viewing available at 3:00. Dan Canevari coached with Cador for three years. He says the coach never had a bad day.

The U.S. Men’s National Team has a World Cup round of 16 showdown with Belgium tonight. Despite receiving a red card in the previous match, leading scorer Flo Balogun will be available after FIFA suspended the controversial penalty. Louisiana Soccer Association reporter Paul Boron says fans and analysts around the world disagreed with the original call.

The LSU Tigers are two months away from their season opener against Clemson September 5. It’s the same matchup as the first game of last year’s campaign, but there will be a lot of new faces. The Tigers are, of course, now led by head coach Lane Kiffin, and Clemson brought back former coordinator Chad Morris to run the offense. The Advocate’s John Blau, who covered Clemson for six years, says two high-powered offenses will go head-to-head.

Former LSU pitcher Paul Skenes was named to his third straight All-Star Game. Skenes is posting a 3.62 ERA with 119 strikeouts in 97 innings.
LSU landed a commitment from Oregon outfielder Angel Laya. ESPN’s 15th-ranked portal prospect hit .296 with 14 homers and 47RBIs as a freshman this season.
