State Police say a crash in Iberville Parish has killed one and seriously injured another. They say an SUV, driven by 31-year-old King Ellis of Jeanerette, was driving in the wrong lane on US 90 when he collided with a truck driven by 18-year-old Jordan Prince of Loreauville. Prince, a recent Loreauville High School graduate, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ellis was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries. Authorities say impairment on the part of Ellis is suspected.

This is Hurricane Preparedness Week and state officials want you to take time to prepare for the upcoming hurricane season. Chris Guilbeaux, a deputy director at the Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness says a three to five day supply of water and food that won’t spoil are some of the things you should purchase now. He says this Saturday and Sunday, the state sales tax on certain hurricane preparation items will be removed…

Forecasters are calling for a quiet hurricane season but Guilbeaux says we can’t let our guard down.

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer and swimming season and the state Department of Health and Hospitals wants everyone to take precautions to stay safe. JT Lane, Assistant Secretary for Public Health, says pool safety is important and if you plan on swimming in any natural waterways, extra precautions should be taken…
