A legal mess in New Orleans. On Thursday, an Orleans Parish grand jury indicted Attorney General Liz Murrill on 16 counts for sending letters to New Orleans elected officials that warned they could be removed from office if they kept making moves against a new state law that combined the city’s criminal and civil courts. Early Friday morning, the state Supreme Court halted the criminal case over concerns about how the grand jury conducted its business. The state’s highest court also issued an emergency order vacating the 400-thousand-dollar arrest warrant for Murrill. Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says most legal observers would agree that Murrill’s letters did not violate state law….
