The House Transportation Committee has put the brakes on a bill that would require drivers to take a driver’s knowledge test when they renew their driver’s license every six years. Baton Rouge Representative Dixon McMakin says the test would provide drivers with a refresher on the rules of the road. Monroe Representative Pat Moore says it’s too much. Instead, require drivers to watch an online video containing basic rules of the road and tips on how to be a safer driver.

McMakin says he’ll look at revising his proposal and bring it up for debate at a later date.

A 13-year-old student shot his father in front of the Tangipahoa Alternative School in Hammond this morning. Hammond Police Chief Edwin Bergeron says the teen refused to get out of his father’s vehicle to attend school, so his father decided to take him home and that is when the boy shot his father causing the vehicle to accelerate and hit a home across the street. Bergeron says after the collision, the armed 13-year-old started walking to the school, but the school resource officer acted quickly to disarm the teen

The father is in stable condition.
