Qualifying is underway for the rescheduled U.S. House election. With the original closed primary cancelled at the last minute following the Supreme Court decision on the previous congressional map, this year’s races revert back to the open primary system. Michael Echols qualified in district five back in February, and he qualified again this morning.

Cut 9 (09)  “…to deliver results.”

Another candidate who qualified for the district five ballot is Gabe Firment, who said the people in the district he spoke to told him they’re concerned about the future of this country.

Cut 11 (13) “…pursuit of happiness.”

Stewart Cathey, Austin Magee and Dan McKay also qualified in district five on the first day. McKay is a Democrat, the rest are Republicans.

Police in Shreveport say a 14-year-old girl who was shot to death over the weekend was killed by a 13-year-old stepsibling. Police say the 13-year-old intentionally fired the gun, hitting Makayla Pennywell in the head. The 13-year-old is charged with second-degree murder and is now in juvenile detention. Investigators say an argument between the two led to the shooting.
