Today marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic 2016 law enforcement ambush in Baton Rouge. Six officers were shot. Four later died from their injuries. The North Louisiana Crime Lab says it is seeing more and more of a new synthetic opioid that’s even stronger than fentanyl. It’s called cyclorphine (sigh-KLOR-feen). Deputy Director for Toxicology Kenton Leigh says the crime lab first detected cychlorphine in February; and since then, they’ve detected seven different pill types with cychlorphine.

Federal officials are working to classify it as a Schedule One narcotic, labeling it as having no medical benefit. That would prohibit it from being legally prescribed, dispensed or administered.
Authorities are working to put an end to the gang activity they are seeing along the I-55 corridor in southeast Louisiana. Last weekend, a 17-year-old was shot in downtown Hammond in what authorities said was a gang-related shooting.
