After a four-year absence, United Airlines returns to Alexandria today. England Airpark Executive Director Ralph Hennessy says United is offering non-stop service to and from Houston.

United had stopped service to Alexandria in 2022 due to an industry-wide pilot shortage coming out of the COVID pandemic. Hennessy says the resumption of twice-daily service to and from Bush Intercontinental Airport will be very convenient for business travelers.

Hennessy says the best part about flying out of a regional airport like AEX is you won’t have to arrive two hours before departure.

The first flight from IAH arrives at around three this afternoon. It will be greeted with fanfare, including a water cannon salute.

Ed Orgeron is back coaching at LSU again! Head coach Lane Kiffin has added the former Tigers head coach to his staff as the special assistant to recruiting and defense. WWL Radio Sports Talk show host and longtime friend of Orgeron, Mike Detillier, says Coach O has been wanting to return to LSU for several months.

The 64-year-old from LaRose was the head coach at LSU from 2016 to 2021 and put together one of the greatest college football teams ever in 2019, when the Tigers went 15-0 and won the national championship. But two years later, he was fired and has been out of coaching ever since. Detillier says Orgeron got the itch to coach again last fall.

Orgeron has been known as one of the best defensive line coaches in college football, and Detillier says Kiffin knows outstanding D-line play is critical to winning championships.

This is will be the fourth time that Kiffin and Orgeron have been on the same staff together — twice at USC and once at Tennessee 2009.  Orgeron’s base salary is 100-thousand dollars, and it runs through January 2027.

A very disappointing 2026 LSU baseball season ended last night with a 3-1 loss to Auburn in the SEC Tournament. The Tigers were ranked in the top two nationally before the season, but they finish with just 10 wins in the SEC and out of the NCAA Tournament. Head Coach Jay Johnson says to say that it was a tough season is putting it very mildly.

Johnson says the loss is really hard on the 12 seniors on the team.

Johnson hopes the program grows from this difficult season.

When you include the two SEC Tournament games, the Tigers’ league record was 10-22. Overall, LSU finished with a record of 30-and-28 — one of the worst follow-up seasons ever to a national championship season. Two teams suffered losing seasons the season after winning it all, and both are from the SEC — Mississippi State in 2022 and Ole Miss in 2023.

The National Weather Service is expecting a below-average hurricane season this year, with between eight and 14 named storms, including three to six hurricanes. NOAA Administrator Neil Jacobs says a certain weather pattern is the key factor behind this forecast.

State Treasurer John Fleming has challenged Congresswoman Julia Letlow to participate in three televised debates before the June 27^th Senate Republican primary runoff. Fleming, Letlow and Incumbent Bill Cassidy did not participate in a TV debate prior to the May 16^th primary, but Letlow and Fleming debated on the Moon Griffon Show.

The House Governmental Affairs Committee is debating Louisiana’s congressional map at this hour. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat expects a lengthy hearing, with dozens of people expected to testify in opposition of the map that would likely result in five Republicans and one Democrat in Louisiana’s House delegation starting in 2027.

A prominent Democratic political strategist says while he expects the Republican Senate nominee to ultimately be elected, the general election should be closer than expected. James Carville says if the Democratic nominee can make it interesting, that could set the party up for success in the future – possibly as early as next year in the governor’s race, as Jeff Landry seeks re-election.

NOAA is predicting a below normal 2026 hurricane season. Eight to 14 named storms, three to six hurricanes, and one to three major hurricanes. NOAA has a 70-percent confidence in these ranges. An average season has 14 named storms. An El Nino developing is expected to develop and El Nino conditions tend to support less tropical storms and hurricanes.

The House Governmental Affairs Committee is meeting to discuss the Senate Approved Congressional map that eliminates one of the two majority black districts, which would give Republicans the ability to represent five of the six Congressional districts. Political analyst Bernie Pinsonat expects emotional testimony and possible outbursts that would result in the meeting being paused until emotions subside.

Pinsonat expects the 5-1 Congressional map to be approved by the House next week.

A Republican is expected to win the U-S Senate race in November, but New Orleans based Democratic political strategist James Carville expects the race to be closer than many people would think, because Black voters are energized…

A House approved constitutional amendment that would prohibit a governor from serving more than two elected terms is moving closer to final legislative passage as it has received approval from the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee. The bill’s author, Chalmette Representative Mike Bayham, likes new leaders and fresh ideas occupying the governor’s mansion and that would be hard to accomplish he says if former two-term governors are able to run again after sitting on the sidelines after four years…

That speculation became a reality last night when LSU announced that Coach O is returning to LSU and will serve as a special assistant to recruiting and defense.
