LSU is getting ready to close out its second week of spring football practice. Senior defensive end Princewill Umanmielen (OOH-mon-me-el-in), who played under Lane Kiffin last season at Ole Miss, says the Tigers are looking to win right away.

LSU sophomore Kailin Chio continues to prove why she’s one of the nation’s top gymnasts. On Thursday night, Chio recorded two perfect 10s in the second round of the Baton Rouge NCAA Regional. Coach Jay Clark says Chio is a rare talent but her success would not be possible without her teammates.

LSU competes in the NCAA Regional Final tomorrow at the PMAC at 5 PM. If LSU finishes in the two between Clemson, Stanford and Michigan, the Tigers will head to the finals.

A  three-game weekend series between LSU and Tennessee is underway. The Tigers are 4-and-5 in the SEC, while the Volunteers are 3-and-6. Tennessee has played well at home this season as they are 16-and-4 and the Tigers have not won a game in Knoxville since 2016. Eight straight losses for LSU versus the Vols on their home field.

Louisiana Tech will look to snap an eight game losing streak tonight when the Bulldogs face FIU> The Panthers won last night seven to four.

Northwestern State begins the day in first place in the Southland. The Demons are at UTRGV tonight. Northwestern scored a season-high 17 runs and defeated the Vaqueros 17 to nine last night. Ethan Menard from Opelousas had a home run and six RBIs last night.

In other action tonight…Nicholls is at Houston Christian and UNO hosts McNeese. The Cowboys beat the Privateers four to three in eleven innings yesterday. Hayden Stringfellow’s home run in the 11th inning was the difference.

Funeral arrangements have been announced for Collin Lacaze. He’s the Alexandria Senior High Student killed earlier this week by an alleged drunk driver in a hit and run. Visitation will be Monday night. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 AM Tuesday at St. Rita Catholic Church in Alexandria.

Ponchatoula-based Elmer Chocolate has been making candy in Louisiana for 170 years; and its Heavenly Hash, Pecan Egg and Gold Brick Egg are popular treats for Easter. Currently there are three different flavors of Heavenly Hash and two classic flavors for Gold Brick Eggs, but CEO Rob Nelson says they are looking to add additional flavors.

Dickerson says her bill is designed to improve overall public safety, not just in schools.

A bill to address a school resource officer shortage by allowing military veterans to serve as SROs passes in the House Education Committee. Louisiana V-A Commissioner Elena Branzeru (bran-ZEHR-ah) spoke in favor of it; she stressed that veterans would not replace police officers; they would simply provide reinforcement.

Easter is always a huge time for Ponchatoula-based Elmer Chocolate, which has been making candy in Louisiana for 170 years. Last year, an Illinois-based private equity firm purchased a majority stake in the company. CEO Rob Nelson says that deal provides Elmer with more financial resources to expand its products.

Chio became just the second gymnast in program history to record two perfect 10s in an NCAA regional. She now has 12 career perfect scores, ranking second in program history. Junior Konnor McClain says being able to witness what Chio is accomplishing is special.

This is according to a House concurrent resolution by Denham Springs Republican Roger Wilder, who says bringing those activities under the authority of the LHSAA would bring greater structure and safety oversight. The resolution passed in the House Education Committee.

Former DeRidder mayor Misty Roberts’ sentencing date has been pushed back from April 17th to June ninth to give her attorneys more time to gather various transcripts for their pre-sentencing motions and to gather evidence. A month ago, Roberts was found guilty of having sex with a 16-year-old while she was the mayor.

The LSU baseball team begins a crucial three-game series in Knoxville against Tennessee this weekend. Junior outfielder Jake Brown says he enjoys playing on the road even if it means playing in hostile ballparks.

Louisiana Tech fell 7-4 to FIU last night to drop its eighth straight game. The Bulldogs will look to get back on track in Game 2 today at 5 p.m.

ULM baseball dropped a 10-7 heartbreaker to Georgia State in 13 innings in the series opener last night. The Warhawks will try to even the series today at 2 p.m.

Northwestern State baseball continues to stay hot, after securing a 17-9 win over Texas Rio Grande Valley in Game 1 of the series. Game 2 is set for tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Will Wade has made the first addition to his LSU coaching staff. Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports reports that former Mississippi State head coach Rick Stansbury is joining the Tigers as associate head coach. Stansbury is the all-time winningest coach in Mississippi State history, compiling a 293–166 record. He was most recently an assistant coach on Penny Hardaway’s staff at Memphis from 2022-2024.

A Pelican Institute for Public Policy report finds electricity costs are rising quickly, and they say, costs will keep going up unless changes are made to the regulatory framework. Melissa Landry, with the Pelican Institute, says according to data from the Public Service Commission, the average utility bill in March was about ten dollars more than last year.

Landry says costs will only continue to rise unless state lawmakers or regulators step in and approve reforms that introduce cost discipline, expand access and provide options to help attract private capital.

LSU Health New Orleans unveils its plan to end cervical cancer in Louisiana by 2035. It’s called the Bayou Blueprint, and it consists of three main pillars. Dr. Donna Williams, the associate director for the LSU LCMC Health Cancer Center says the first one is prevention through the HPV vaccine.

The plan aims to increase HPV vaccination rates among Louisiana girls between the ages of 13 to 17 from the current 67-percent to 80-percent by 2035.

Are you planning to have some crawfish this Easter weekend. Crawfish App co-founder, Laney King says, expect to pay about $3.50 a pound for live crawfish and just over six dollars a pound for boiled crawfish.
