It’s day two of qualifying for November’s congressional elections.

In Louisiana’s Sixth Congressional District, six candidates have signed up to replace Congressman Cleo Fields, who has announced he will not seek re-election. Baton Rouge Senator Rick Edmonds enters the race with the highest name recognition and is preparing for Senator Blake Miguez to join the field. Edmonds says Miguez doesn’t even live in the district…

Cut 6 (11) “…arm in arm”

It remains unclear whether Miguez will qualify before the Friday deadline. Republican Michael Mebruer of St. Francisville has already entered the race. Mebruer says he’s self-funding his campaign so the focus stays on ideas, not fundraising.

Cut 8 (10) “…most importantly, donations.”

Qualifying ends Friday afternoon.

LSU Health Shreveport and Louisiana Tech University have signed a memorandum of understanding to expand research collaboration. Dr. Oren Rom, LSU Health Shreveport’s Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research, says the partnership will focus on biomedical science and engineering, with faculty and graduate students sharing resources and mentoring one another.

Cut 11 (09) “…in North Louisiana.”

Officials say the partnership will strengthen research, innovation and economic growth across North Louisiana.

Applications are now being accepted for Louisiana’s December black bear hunting season. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will award 42 hunting tags through a lottery. Large Carnivore Program Manager John Hanks says drawing a tag is only the first step.
