LSU Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy Natalie Hinkel says this type of eclipse happens when the moon is further from Earth, and it obscures only part of the sun. Natchitoches Police are still investigating the death of a Northwestern State Football Player. 21 year old Ronald Caldwell from Manor, Texas died early Thursday morning after being shot several times. No one has been charged in his death. But Natchitoches Police have arrested Caldwell’s roommate 27 year old John McIntosh, who’s charged with possession of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Antoinette Frank’s was a New Orleans police officer when she killed a fellow officer and two restaurant workers during a late-night robbery in 1995. Her brother, Alex Frank, told the four-member panel that his sister is a reformed person (:18)

By the end of today’s primary election political analysts expect a run-off in the governor’s race between Republican Jeff Landry and Democrat Shawn Wilson. ULM Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says none of the other main candidates, including Stephen Waguespack, have won over enough voters.

Other statewide offices on the ballot include secretary of state, attorney general, & treasurer, just to name a few. Polls are open now…and close tonight at 8. (:09)

Frank was New Orleans police officer when she killed fellow officer Ronald Williams, and two restaurant workers during a late night robbery in 1995. Officer Williams’ son Patrick, says Frank does not deserve to leave death row.

Scalise could only afford to lose four votes from Republicans and there were at least 17 GOP lawmakers against him, despite receiving the House Republican nomination on Wednesday. Scalise says unification is needed and the House has to come together for the country.

A plane crash in Patterson claimed 2 lives yesterday, St. Mary Parish coroner, Eric Melancon confirmed this morning. NTSB is expected to begin investigating the crash of a Cessna 414 that occurred around 3 PM Thursday. The plane crashed in a field in the vicinity of the Patterson Airport and sparks from the crash caused a wildfire in the field adjacent to the airport. Several fire departments from surrounding towns responded. The names of the victims have not be released.

Louisiana’s Steve Scalise had the public support of Louisiana U-S Representatives Julia Letlow and Clay Higgins in his bid for Speaker of the House. Higgins says he’s sad Scalise wouldn’t be the first House Speaker from Louisiana. But He now throws his support behind fellow House Freedom Caucus member Jim Jordan from Ohio…

The Louisiana Pardon Board denied clemency requests from five death row inmates Friday. The inmates were seeking to have their death sentence changed to life in prison. The cases were fast-tracked by Governor Edwards before he leaves office and there’s been a push for clemency hearings for all 56 death row inmates. Among the reviews denied Friday was from the state’s only female death row inmate and former New Orleans Police Officer Antoinette Frank.

Louisiana Congressman and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s attempt to be the next U-S House Speaker is over. Scalise did not have enough votes. In a press conference, Scalise says he will continue as the majority leader but there’s still work to be done.

Northwestern State has canceled their game against Nicholls this Saturday after the tragic passing of junior safety Ronnie Caldwell. Caldwell was an impact transfer from Tyler Junior College who finished seventh on the team in tackles last season. While he never played a down this season, due to a preseason injury, Head Coach Brad Laird knows that his impact was priceless as he noted Caldwells “voice resonated with every member of [their] team from the first to 115th player on the roster”.
