Three suspects in connection with a deadly shooting outside a high school football game in St. Martinville are awaiting extradition. 22-year-old Zackyric Gardner and two others are charged in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Deondre Benjamin. Police Chief Ricky Martin says the shooting ruined St. Martinville’s homecoming game.

Former State Police Trooper Kory York has avoided jail time for his role in the 2019 fatal arrest of Ronald Greene, a black motorist who was beaten and tased by officers following a high-speed chase in Union Parish. York was facing eight counts of malfeasance in office, but York entered a plea of no contest to simple battery and was placed on one year of supervised probation and must perform 160 hours of community service.

Landry’s plan focuses on tax cuts, income tax reductions, and increased take-home pay. Department of Revenue Secretary Richard Nelson says reactions are very positive…

The Public Affairs Research Council projects that higher-income residents will receive around 54% of total tax cuts, though lower-income earners could see proportional relief, with some households under $35,000 potentially experiencing a 50% tax cut. Police in Beaumont, Texas, were waiting for the vehicle to cross into that city, and the vehicle drove straight into that trap, and police arrested Gardner and two others. All are being held in Beaumont and are awaiting extradition back to St. Martin Parish. Martin says the collateral damage was that the shooting ruined what was supposed to be a festive atmosphere at the stadium for the homecoming game.

Mary Glen Miller, the director of sales and marketing at The Myrtles, says it has quite the history.

A former state trooper reaches a plea deal in connection with the death of Ronald Greene. Kory York was originally charged with one count of negligent homicide and ten counts of malfeasance.

York’s attorney, Mike Small, says York was given a six-month suspended sentence and a one-thousand-dollar fine.

The former director of the Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has died. Dick Gremillion (GREM-ee-ahn) passed away over the weekend. Tom Hoefer (HAY-fur) with the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury says Gremillion was with the parish for 31 years, the last 28 of which as OHSEP director.

Allen is optimistic that starting quarterback Derek Carr will return this Sunday from an oblique injury that has sidelined him the last three games. New Orleans will be in Charlotte this Sunday to the face the lowly Panthers.

Former LSU star Jayden Daniels is the talk of the NFL as he led the Commanders to an 18-15 win over the Chicago Bears. Daniels, who was playing with bruised ribs, sailed a Hail Mary pass on the final play of the game that bounced into the hands of Noah Brown for an improbable victory. The Commanders are now six and two and there’s talk about Daniels in the running for M-V-P.

Texas A-and-M quarterback Marcell Reed was named SEC co-freshman of the week for igniting a come from behind win over the LSU Tigers in College Station last Saturday. Reed completed two passes for 70 yards and rushed for 62 yards and three touchdowns. Reed came in for an ineffective Conner Weigman and it looked like the Tigers were not prepared for a running QB. Calcasieu Parish officials are discussing how they will honor their former director of the Calcasieu Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness.
