Because of financial issues, the town of Boyce has been forced to lay-off its entire police force, except for police chief Ronald Goudeau. The Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office says it will assist the town of Boyce with law enforcement duties. Boyce Mayor Kelvin McCoy has not commented on the situation.

A teenager was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Shreveport yesterday afternoon. Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator says officers were attempting to serve a warrant when 19-year-old Javaria Taylor of Shreveport shot Caddo sheriff’s Deputy Justin Dunn…

Big win for the Pelicans last night, ULM was also victorious, while LSU was routed at 6th ranked Tennessee and Louisiana Tech and U-L Lafayette’s long winning streaks are over. That was night of basketball in the boot.

The Pelicans got off to a strong start and held off the Clippers 117 to 106. CJ McCollum had 25 points, 13 of them came in the fourth quarter. Zion Williamson had 21 points and ten assists.

The LSU Tigers trailed by double digits for most of the game and fell to the sixth ranked Volunteers 88-68. Jalen Cook did not play because of a hamstring injury.

The Cajuns eight game winning streak is over as they were upset at home by Georgia State 78-69. Western Kentucky snapped Louisiana Tech’s seven game winning streak as the Bulldogs lost for the first time at home falling to the Hilltoppers 81-76.

But ULM improved to 4-8 in the Sun Belt with a 79-75 win over Coastal Carolina.

The state’s top football prospect for the Class of 2024 signed with the LSU Tigers on National Signing Day. Acadiana High’s Dominick McKinley is a consensus five-star prospect and considered one of the best defensive tackles in the country. It’s a position of need for the Tigers. For the past two years, the weekend leading up to Mardi Gras and Mardi Gras day have been the deadliest of Carnival season on Louisiana roadways as alcohol-related crashes increase says Don Redman with Triple A. He says during the 2022 and 2023 Carnival seasons over 600 alcohol-related crashes occurred — 311 with serious injuries.

Louisiana Roadways on the Sunday before Mardi Gras show an increased number of crashes involving impaired drivers and this year, the Super Bowl falls on the same day. Redman says that nationally the game brings another layer of danger to the roads.

Redman says with the large number of parade goers, you may not be able to get an Uber, Lyft, or Cab. And according to Redman, studies show that just two drinks for the average adult is enough to impair judgement so it’s important to have a plan before you head out to a parade or Super Bowl party.

There was a fatal officer involved shooting in Caddo Parish on Wednesday. Sheriff Steve Prator says shots were fired as officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant to a male suspect, who was in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Prator says one of his deputies  Justin Dunn took a bullet.

The incident occurred on Pines Road before 2 pm when officers located the suspect in a car at the complex. When deputies tried to pull the suspect out of the car, that’s when Dunn was shot.

Prator says as many as six deputies and officers from multiple agencies responded. He says State Police is handling the investigation…

U S Senator Bill Cassidy continues to question Governor Jeff Landry’s spending decisions. Cassidy said today he’s not a fan of spending three million dollars to send Louisiana National Guard troops to the U-S Mexico border. Cassidy has been very vocal about party primary elections that he says will cost the state 135-million dollars over ten years. Cassidy says that’s 138-million dollars that could go towards a new I-10 Lake Charles bridge….

Louisiana Tech signed five players today including Zachary defensive back Luke Wisham and Haynesville linebacker Alonzo Jackson Junior.

The Ragin Cajuns signed a couple of local running backs who put up big numbers. St. Thomas More’s Hutch Swilley who had 25-hundred yards rushing during his prep career and St. Martinville’s Steven Blanco.

According to Rivals, ULM’s recruiting class for 2024 finished fourth in the Sun Belt.

It will be a big night of hoops in the Bayou State. The LSU men’s basketball will look to upset sixth ranked Tennessee tonight in Knoxville. The Volunteers are coming off a big win against Kentucky. They scored 103 points in that contest.

The Ragin Cajuns go after their eighth straight win as they host Georgia State. La Tech seeks its seventh straight win as the Bulldogs host Western Kentucky. ULM is also home tonight to face Coastal Carolina.

McNeese men’s basketball coach Will Wade has a new five-year contract that pays him a school record 700-thousand dollars. The Cowboys already have 20 wins on the year, including an impressive non-conference win against Michigan. Wade says a day after beating the Wolverines, there were six-thousand unique visitors to the unviersity’s website…

Two south Louisiana teachers earned the national Milken Educator Award and a cash prize of $25,000 on Tuesday. The winners were Christine Bayard and Derrick Winn. New Iberia math teacher, Christine Bayard, won the award for her innovative approach to transforming her classroom into real-world environments including outer space.

Bayard, who teaches at Johnston-Hopkins Elementary, learned of the award during an assembly attended by Milken Educator Award Founder Lowell Milken and State superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley.

Southeastern Louisiana University has deployed four research buoys to monitor the Lake Maurepas ecosystem. The goal is to see where the lake stands before Air Products begin its project to inject carbon emissions into wells deep beneath the lake. Director of Lake Maurepas Monitoring Program Kyle Piller says the buoy captures real time data four times every hour…

Two buoys are placed in Livingston Parish, one in Tangipahoa Parish, and one in St. John Parish. The Blind River buoy has a weather station to gather air temperature, wind speed, barometric pressure, and precipitation.
