Despite a valiant comeback, the LSU women’s basketball team’s season ended last night as Duke hit a buzzer-beating shot to defeat the Lady Tigers 87 to 85. Ashlon Jackson hit the winning shot as the ball spun around the rim before going through the hoop. LSU was down by 11 points with 7:35 to go and took the lead on Mikaylah Williams’ two free throws with nine seconds left. Williams had 22 points, and MiLaysia Fulwiley had a career-high 28 points.

Duke had 20 offensive rebounds and had 21 second-chance points. LSU finishes with a 29-6 record, they were 1-6 in games decided by seven points or less.

LSU baseball also lost last night, falling to Kentucky seven to four. Casan Evans suffered the loss as he walked six hitters in six innings and gave up four runs. The Tigers are 2-and-5 in the SEC and will look to even up the series at 2 PM.

Big win for ULM baseball as the Warhawks went down to Lafayette and defeated the Cajuns five to three to improve to 5-2 in the Sun Belt. Davis Mauzy’s three-run home run in the sixth inning was the difference.

Jacksonville State blanked La Tech four to nothing. Northwestern thumped Nicholls 12 to 2 to improve to 9-and-4 in the Southland. Southeastern outscored UNO 13 to 11. Abilene Christian beat McNeese six to four. Texas Southern topped Grambling 15 to 8.

Offensive tackle Jordan Seaton spoke to the media for the first time this week since transferring to LSU. Seaton, rated as the top offensive lineman in the transfer portal, says his decision to come to Baton Rouge factored into how professional the program is run.

Legislation to create the Office of Health and Nutrition within the Louisiana Department of Health advances to the full Senate. Covington Senator Patrick McMath says the office would not be an additional cost, but it could help lower health care costs in the future as Louisiana has some of the highest rates of chronic disease in the country.

Entergy Louisiana and Meta announce a new agreement that they say will save customers two-billion dollars over the next 20 years. Under the agreement, Meta is making a series of contributions aimed at lowering energy costs to customers near its data centers. Those savings are in addition to the previously announced savings of 650-million dollars.

LSU begins a pivotal baseball series tonight against 19th ranked Kentucky. The Tigers are 2-and-4 in SEC play and just lost a series at home last weekend and it would not be good if LSU dropped a second consecutive home SEC series. The Wildcats are 4-2 in league play, 20-and-4 overall. First pitch is at 6:30.

Also tonight…the Cajuns host ULM. Louisiana Tech hosts first place Jacksonville State, Nicholls hosts Northwestern, Southeastern hosts UNO.

LSU’s new starting offensive tackle Jordan Seaton says he’s worked out with former Neville and Tiger star Will Campbell. Seaton says seeing Campbell’s mindset toward football played a key role in his decision to end up in Baton Rouge.

In LSU’s 93-77 win over Duke earlier this season, the Tigers had three post players score in double figures. LSU holds a size advantage over Duke and coach Kim Mulkey says the game plan to win the battle in the paint is simple.

The US House has rejected the Senate’s DHS funding bill, extending the shutdown that’s caused TSA worker shortages at airports. House Speaker Mike Johnson from Bossier Parish called the Senate’s spending package a “joke” and will ask the House to approve a bill to fund DHS through May 22nd.

Will Wade is returning to Baton Rouge as LSU’s men’s basketball coach four years after being fired for recruiting violations. Wade has signed a seven-year deal that will pay him four-million dollars in his first season. He’s also expected to have a roster budget exceeding 12-million dollars. Wade was fired by then-athletic director Scott Woodward in 2022. Current LSU AD Verge Ausberry was serving as an assistant athletic director at the time Wade was fired. Tiger Rag editor Glenn Guilbeau says Ausberry was very supportive of Wade and believes his firing wasn’t as significant as many made it out to be.

Wade arrived in Baton Rouge on Thursday night, where he was greeted by Ausberry, LSU President Wade Rousse, and several other LSU officials. As he left the airport, Wade jokingly told reporters that he would try to follow more rules this time.

With starting pitcher Cooper Moore sidelined for the next two to three weeks due to triceps soreness in his throwing arm, LSU will need to find another arm to start for the third game against Kentucky this weekend. Coach Jay Johnson hasn’t named a third starter, but the ability to pitch extended innings will factor into the decision.
