The FBI arrested a person in New Iberia that they say was plotting a violent New Year’s Eve attack. FBI Director, Kash Patel said in a social media post, that this person whose identity has not been released, was part of a radical pro-Palestinian group. The FBI says the person arrested in Louisiana was not part of the group planning multiple New Year’s Eve bombings in Los Angels, California, and it is not yet clear if the person’s attacks were planning for California, Louisiana, or elsewhere but the FBI considers the threat considerable.

A state lawmaker is worried about the future of LSU Health Shreveport. The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved major organizational changes that include giving the Baton Rouge campus direct oversight of research operations at its research institutions. Shreveport Senator Thomas Pressly says the restructuring ends 25 years of local autonomy for LSU Health Shreveport…

The Saints have a winning streak. With yesterday’s 20-17 win over the Panthers, it’s two in a row. The key play came with 12 seconds left and the Saints out of timeouts, Quarterback Tyler Shough ran it down the middle for four yards and slid. Panthers’ safety Lathan Ransom hit Shough as he was sliding, drawing a 15-yard penalty. That penalty put Smyth in position to kick a 47-yard game winning field goal. But if not for that penalty, Shough says he and his teammates were ready to sprint to the line for him to spike the ball and stop the clock.

While State Farm will be boosting premiums on property insurance policies by an average of almost ten percent statewide, Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says it will be lowering auto insurance premiums by almost six percent on average.

Temple says State Farm requested the decrease because in the last year they paid fewer claims than they had forecast.

The Saints put the Panthers away yesterday 20 – 17. The game winning drive started at the Saints’ nine-yard line with only 57 seconds left. With one time out Tyler Shough got the Saints into Charlie Smyth’s field goal range. Shough says the entire offensive unit was locked in.

Tyler Shough was one of the heroes for the Saints yesterday, earning his first comeback victory of his NFL career in leading the team to a 20-17 win over the Panthers. It was the Saints’ fourth win of the season, Shough’s third win as a starting quarterback and the team’s second win in a row. It was also Shough’s first win in the Superdome, which he says made it that much more important.

The FBI says the person arrested in Louisiana was not part of the California bombings plan, but is considered a considerable threat.

The Louisiana Wildlife Federation has released a new edition of its “First Time Fishing in the Atchafalaya Basin.” The first edition of the “First Time Fishing” booklet was published in 2014 by Anna Wilson and it helped introduce thousands of young people to the basics of fishing.  Executive Director of the Louisiana Wildlife Federation, Rebecca Triche, says this updated edition, hopes to inspire the next generation to connect with nature and enjoy fishing in the Basin…

In just his third NFL game, Charlie Smyth from Ireland, kicked a 47-yard field goal with two seconds left to give the Saints a 20-17 win over the Carolina Panthers. Smyth has been with the Saints since joining the NFL’s International Player Pathway Program in 2024. But it wasn’t until New Orleans released Blake Grupe that Smyth got his chance and he is taking advantage of the opportunity…

The Saints have won two in row and they can make it three straight when they host the Jets this Sunday at noon.

The Pelicans beat the Bulls for a second time this season as Trey Murphy and Jeremiah Fears eached scored 20 points in 114 to 104 win. Zion Williamson returned from a hip injury and scored 18 points off the bench.

 

The LHSAA Prep Classic ended on Saturday with Edna Karr beating district rival Saint Augustine 49-14 to win their second consecutive state championship. Cougars Coach Brice Brown says what they’ve accomplished the last two years is nothing short of incredible…

But if you bundle home and auto with State Farm in Louisiana, you’ll probably break even next year, compared to last year, if you’re lucky. That’s because State Farm is increasing its property insurance premiums in the state by an average of almost ten-percent. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple says State Farm requested the rate increase because unlike the smaller companies, which rely on reinsurance, it used a different model that involves in-house hurricane forecasting, and that led to a projection of higher losses due to hurricanes.

At the same time, Temple says State Farm will be lowering auto insurance premiums by almost six-percent on average.

Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has announced that SureChoice, the state’s second largest home insurer, is cutting homeowners insurance premiums by an average of 7.5-percent. But on the flip side State Farm, the state’s largest insurer, is increasing rates by an average of 10-percent. Temple says State Farm is projecting higher future losses due to hurricanes…

The state will not have to worry about a budget deficit next year, and in fact, the Legislature will have more money to spend than anticipated as a result of higher tax collections that were originally projected…..

That’s Melinda Deslatte with the Public Affairs Research Council. Deslatte says income tax revenues came in higher than projected, even though lower income tax rates went into effect on January 1st.

 

The 2025 LHSAA Prep Classic produced some memorable moments and one of the wildest finishes ever. St. Charles Catholic kicker Tyler Milioto missed a potential game-tying extra point with 35 seconds left, but got another chance thanks to an Archbishop Shaw player throwing his helmet in the air in an act of celebration thinking the game was over. That and a shanked punt by Shaw, gave Milioto another chance and he nailed a game winning 44-yard field goal…

It’s the fourth state championship for St. Charles Catholic, but a devasting loss for legendary coach Hank Tierney and the Archbishop Shaw Eagles.

Make it two in a row for the Saints! The Saints scored ten points late in the fourth quarter and beat the Carolina Panthers in the Superdome, 20-17. On the game-tying drive, Tyler Shough led the team down the field 78 yards in seven plays, capped with a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave. Head Coach Kellen Moore said Shough showed a lot of poise in that drive.

While one insurance company is lowering its homeowners’ insurance premiums, another is raising them. Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple has approved a rate decrease of 7.5% on average for both SureChoice Underwriters and Elevate. Temple says this is a testament that the insurance reforms passed by the legislature are working.

However, Temple says that, unfortunately, State Farm is raising homeowners’ insurance rates by an average of 10 percent. Temple says State Farm uses a different model to calculate rates and the company is projecting higher future losses due to hurricanes.

Louisiana has more money to spend. The Public Affairs Research Council’s Melinda Deslatte says it’s the result of higher-than-expected tax collections…

How the extra money will be spent will be decided by lawmakers during next year’s regular session.
