Though there may officially be one month to go in this hurricane season, State Climatologist Jay Grymes says looks like Louisiana will make it through this year unscathed.

He says history has shown that this time of year, the threat of tropical weather in the Gulf of Mexico is nonexistent. This year, no storm of at least tropical storm strength made landfall along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The closest was Tropical Storm Barry, which made landfall in central Mexico in late June.

LSU supporters are hoping for a quieter week after a topsy-turvy few days last week. Football coach Brian Kelly and athletics director Scott Woodward are both gone, and some say Governor Landry’s fingerprints are all over Woodward’s departure. Former LSU linebacker Darry Beckwith is concerned…

Louisiana is a big winner at the JRNY (“Journey”) America Awards, taking home three awards. Louisiana won for State of the Year, and New Orleans won for Best Food City and Best New Tourism initiative – the latter being for the new Amtrak Mardi Gras service. Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says the Mardi Gras service, which connects New Orleans to Mobile, Alabama, with stops in Mississippi along the way, is something that he worked on and is something he’s very proud of.

Nungesser says the award for State of the Year is testament that while New Orleans is certainly a world class tourist attraction, there’s a lot more for visitors to see throughout the whole state.

Nungesser says Louisiana has some of the best outdoor recreation opportunities in the country, if not the world.

Hennessy says AEX had worked to restore service to Houston since the day service was discontinued. The airport got its big breakthrough when SkyWest Airlines came into the picture.

Hennessy says the airport made SkyWest a guarantee to secure the resumption of the service to Houston.

Cut 9 (12)  “…revenue guarantee.”

The first million comes from a DOT grant, and the remaining 200-thousand dollars is pledged by the Alexandria-based Louisiana Central Community Foundation. When service resumes in May, there will be two daily non-stop flights, with each flight about 45 minutes.

For the second time this season, the Saints traveled to the West Coast and played an uncompetitive game, losing 34-10 to the Los Angeles Rams. Rookie quarterback Tyler Shough made his first NFL start and threw for 176 yards, one touchdown, and was intercepted once. The Saints’ lone touchdown came in the second quarter, and New Orleans was already down 20-3. Shough says they wanted to start quickly on the road…

Police in Monroe have made  a second arrest in a triple homicide that left three people dead including a 2 year old girl.   24 year-old Cameron Criner is accused in the triple homicide that claimed the lives of Jamal Bosley, Jaborris Simpson and the child.  Police say Criner’s criminal history is “extensive and deeply troubling”.  Another suspect, 24-year-old Travis Payton was arrested on Wednesday.

LSU introduced New Iberia native and longtime athletic administrator Verge Ausberry as its interim athletics director. After a tumultuous week that saw the firing of head football coach Brian Kelly and the departure of athletics director Scott Woodward, Ausberry had this message for LSU fans…

A Bossier City man who fatally shot a customer at his watermelon stand almost five years ago was convicted Thursday in Bossier District Court.  A Bossier Parish jury found 29 year old Colton Matthews guilty of Manslaughter. He was originally charged with second-degree murder. Matthews will be sentenced in February.

LSU alum and Baton Rouge native Scott Woodward is no longer the athletics director at LSU after Governor Landry said he did not want Woodward to hire the next football coach. It was announced on Thursday night that Woodward and the LSU Board of Supervisors mutually agreed to party ways. LSU Board of Supervisors member John Carmouche denies that Landry had anything to do with Woodward’s departure…

Woodward still had three years left on his contract and LSU owes him six million dollars.

Big news for Louisiana soybean farmers as China has agreed to buy 12-million metric tons of U.S. soybeans between now and January. That number is down more than ten-million metric tons after China stopped buying U.S. soybeans amid a months-long tariff battle. Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says the U.S. is the second-biggest producer of soybeans in the world.

If you’re a book fan and looking for something to do today, the Louisiana Book Festival is happening in Baton Rouge. Robert Wilson, the executive director for the Louisiana Center for the Book, says there’s one building that’s usually a part of the festival that won’t be this year.

The Louisiana Department of Health says the state will begin funding food stamp dollars to the EBT cards of SNAP recipients starting tomorrow. During this first week, SNAP-eligible households will receive 25-percent of their benefit, and then seven days later they’ll get another 25-percent and so on. The state is NOT providing food assistance to able-bodied adults, impacting 53-thousand people.
