Democratic incumbent Senator Mary Landrieu lost her bid for a fourth term as she was defeated by Republican Congressman Bill Cassidy in Saturday’s runoff election. Cassidy received 57-percent of the vote to Landrieu’s 43-percent and he had this message for those who have supported Landrieu throughout the years….

Pathetic, terrible, horrendous, all of those adjectives describes the Saints 41-10 loss to the Carolina Panthers yesterday in the Mercedes Benz Superdome. It’s the fourth straight loss at home and the largest margin of defeat for the franchise since 2007. Saints Coach Sean Payton didn’t sugarcoat the performance when he spoke with reporters after the game…

Carolina jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and the Saints didn’t do much to get back in the game.

Elsewhere in the NFC South…Tampa Bay fell to the Detroit Lions, 34-17, and the Atlanta Falcons are on the road to take on the Green Bay Packers. A loss by Atlanta, and the Saints are still tied for first in the division.

Anthony Davis scored 23 points and Jrue Holiday added 22 as the Pels blew past the Los Angeles Lakers 104-87.

The LSU football team will play Notre Dame in the Music City Bowl on Tuesday, December 30th. It’s the 15th straight season the Tigers will play in a bowl game and it’s their first meeting against the Fighting Irish since beating them 41-13 in the 2007 Sugar Bowl. Louisiana Tech has accepted an offer to play in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The 8-5 Bulldogs will take on the University of Illinois in the game on December 26th at the historic Cotton Bowl stadium. The Fighting Illini come into this matchup with a 6-6 record.

In December 20th’s New Orleans Bowl, UL-Lafayette will face Nevada. This is the Ragin Cajuns fourth straight appearance in the game, which will have a 10AM kickoff and will be televised nationally by ESPN.

Polls will remain open until 8 o’clock tonight for Louisiana voters to cast their ballots in today’s election. Louisiana’s US Senate race will be decided between Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu and Republican challenger Bill Cassidy. There are also runoffs in the 5th and 6th District Congressional races.

A Grand Isle businessman was sentenced to 25 weekends in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of federal civil rights violations. Josh Jambon admitted to using racial slurs and striking two black female crew members who were cleaning up on Grand Isle after Hurricane Isaac. Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino says the judge was no doubt impressed with the one-hundred or so character letters on Jambon’s behalf requesting leniency…

Jambon was also fined $10,000. He faced a maximum sentence of two years in prison and $200,000 in fines.

Alexandria Police have arrested an Alexandria man on six counts of attempted first degree murder after a shooting incident. They say 18-year-old Dominique Jones of Alexandria apparently got into a fight with a few other near Bolton High School, when he pulled a gun and began firing. Luckily, no one was hit and there was no property damage done. Jones is also charged with possession of a firearm in a school zone.

6th Congressional District candidate Garret Graves disputes accusations from his opponent, Edwin Edwards, that his family gets special privileges because of Governor Bobby Jindal. The Edwards campaign has continued to tie Graves to Jindal and criticized his time as head of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority…

A shooting involving a West Monroe Police officer Thursday evening has left one man dead. The incident happened in front of a convenience store near West Monroe High School. The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Raymond Keith Martinez. The name of the officer, who was uninjured in the incident, has not been released. The officer has been placed on administrative leave while the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police are investigating the case.

Today is election day in Louisiana. Today’s ballot is highlighted by Louisiana’s US Senate race between Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu and Republican challenger Bill Cassidy. There are also runoff elections in the 5th and 6th Congressional Districts. Polls will be open until 8PM tonight.

Speaking of the 6th District, candidates Republican Garret Graves and Democratic former governor Edwin Edwards continued sparring leading up to election day. Edwards has alleged that Graves was somehow involved in getting his father’s engineering firm government contracts and making his brother-in-law the leasing agent at the Water Institute in Baton Rouge while he was head of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority. Graves says these accusations are completely absurd…

The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office has arrested a New Iberia man after a hostage situation Thursday. Lt. Richard Fleming says the situation began the night before when 31-year-old Thomas Chevalier broke into the victim’s apartment prior to her arrival. He says when the victim returned home, Chevalier then battered and sexually assaulted her…

The victim has since been released. Fleming says Chevalier faces numerous charges including aggravated rape.

State Police are investigating a fatal crash in Livingston Parish that has left two men dead. Trooper Jared Sandifer says 50-year-old Lloyd Hutson of Jackson crossed the center line into the path of a car driven by 76-year-old Raymond Bender of Denham Springs. The two vehicles collided head-on and both drivers were killed as a result. Sandifer says investigating troopers believe impairment may have been a factor in this wreck…

4 state football champs were crowned last night in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Prep Classic inside the Mercedes Benz Superdome.

In Division IV, Ouachita Christian crushed University Lab 52-6. This is the Eagles’ third state championship in four years.

In Division III, Calvary Baptist held off Catholic-New Iberia 27-24 to win their second consecutive title.

In the Division II title game, University Lab overcame an early deficit to defeat Parkview Baptist 46-32. The Cubs finish the season with a perfect 14-0 record.

And in Division I, Jesuit won its first state championship in over 50 years as they upended John Curtis 17-14. The Blue Jays last state championship came in 1960.

Louisiana Tech takes on Marshall in the Conference USA Championship game today in Morgantown, West Virginia. In order to win, the Bulldogs will have to slow down a Thundering Herd offense that’s averaging 47 points a game. Marshall’s QB is senior Rakeem Cato and Tech Head Coach Skip Holtz says there’s a lot of talent around him…

Holtz says the conditioning could play a factor in this one, because Marshall has played some of its best football in the fourth quarter this year. Kickoff is at 11AM and the game will be televised on ESPN2.

The SWAC Championship Game is this afternoon in Houston. The Southern Jaguars will take on Alcorn State for the league. Southern is looking to capture its second consecutive SWAC Championship and avenge an early season 56-16 loss to the Braves. You can watch on ESPNU beginning at 3PM.
