A student from Dutchtown High School was killed and four other people were hurt in a head on crash this morning in Gonzales. State Police spokesman Jared Sandifer says for unknown reasons, a car was traveling in the wrong lane of traffic on La 74 near Interstate 10…:

Sandifer says victims are not being identified at this time pending notification of next of kin. The other driver is recovering at a local hospital. The crash remains under investigation.

Congressman Bill Cassidy is back in Washington today to start getting ready for his new role on the Senate side. The Congressman easily defeated Senator Mary Landrieu over the weekend. Cassidy says, with Republicans in control of Congress, they will finally be able to pass the Keystone XL pipeline legislation…:

Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order today which mandates that hospitals treating victims of sexual assault directly bill the Crime Victims Reparation Board instead of victims for a list of eligible expenses dealing with their care. The order also extends the amount of time a sexual assault victim must notify law enforcement to be eligible for reparations from 72 hours to 1 year.

After Sunday’s beat down by the Carolina Panthers, it appears that New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton has put his players on notice. Payton alluded that some could be looking for jobs sooner than they expect…:

Political Analyst Clancy Dubos says Saturday’s defeat doesn’t necessarily mean that Landrieu’s political career is over. Dubos says Landrieu could decide to jump back in the political arena, but admits that it may be a while before she runs for office again…

State Police say a Dutchtown High School student was killed and four others injured in a head-on collision this morning in Gonzales. They say three teenagers were traveling in the westbound lane of LA 74 when they crashed into a car traveling eastbound in the same lane. A backseat passenger in the teens’ car was pronounced dead at the scene. Two others in that car plus the driver and passenger in the other car were taken to local hospitals for their injuries.

With a rise in youth ADHD diagnoses and treatment, the Department of Health and Hospitals is hosting a symposium focusing on finding solutions to the problem. Secretary Kathy Kliebert says there are studies that show ADHD medication is a gateway drug and is seriously abused…

It is expected that Holden will announce his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor in next year’s election. State Senator Elbert Guillory, Jefferson Parish President John Young, and Plauemines Parish President Billy Nungesser have already declared their intent to run for the office.

Former Governor Edwin Edwards will be releasing another book next year and this one will be loaded with pictures. Biographer Leo Honeycutt says they will begin working on the project next year and he’ll push to have it out by the end of the summer/early fall. He says the Edwards picture book will also be another Louisiana political history book…

A Grand Prairie family is mourning the loss of a father who died trying to rescue his son in a house fire. St. Landry Parish fire officials say 42-year-old John Robertson Sr. died after rushing into the burning home to rescue his 10-year-old son. The boy is in stable condition at a Baton Rouge hospital suffering burns over 40-percent of his body. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected BP’s challenge of the multi-billion dollar settlement set forth by lower courts in connection with the 2010 Gulf Oil Spill. Most legal experts suspect that there will not be any futher litigation in the matter, and BP will have to abide by the deal it made.

State Police say an Opelousas man was killed Saturday evening when the bike on which he was riding was struck from behind by a pickup truck in St. Landry Parish. Master Trooper Brooks David says 55-year-old Joseph Norman was riding his bike when he was struck by 69 year-old Joseph Thibodeaux.
