The American Automobile Association says gas prices in Louisiana are the lowest they’ve been in four years. AAA fuel analyst Don Redman says the current statewide average for a gallon of regular is $2.88. He says you can blame supply and demand…:

School officials are working to repair the grass after fans stormed the field in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. Assistant Sports Turf Manager Hunter Sexton says the damage wasn’t nearly as bad as they thought it would be but the biggest issue was people using keys and pocket knives to cut out sections of the field as a souvenir…:

A man from Marrero is under arrest accused of cockfighting and abusing 44 chickens according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s office. They say 76-year-old Armando Alvarez was housing over forty caged birds standing in waste including 40 roosters with scars. Alvarez was booked with one count of cockfighting, 44 counts of cruelty to animals and 40 aggravated cruelty to animals.

State Police say a 45-year-old woman is dead after a crash in Madison Parish yesterday afternoon. They say Karen Soares of Delhi veered off Highway 557 and rolled several times before coming to rest in a field. The woman was not wearing her seat-belt, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

Sasol has been given the final OK to go ahead with it’s massive petrochemical project in Calcasieu Parish near their existing site in Westlake. Governor Bobby Jindal says they estimate the project will create an additional 5,000 construction jobs and nearly 2,400 indirect jobs. He says this is proof Louisiana is open for business…:

He says this investment could turn into a $22 billion dollar venture if a proposed gas-to-liquids plant is also built.

Tonight the NBA season tips off as the New Orleans Pelicans host the Orlando Magic. Many league analysts say Pels power forward Anthony Davis is ready to take another step towards becoming an MVP candidate. He averaged nearly 21 points and ten rebounds last season and was one of the top performers on the US Team that won the gold medal in the World Championships. Tonight’s game gets underway at 7:00 in the Smoothie King Center.

Today is the NFL trade deadline. And the Saints are practicing today, which is rare for a Tuesday, but New Orleans has to, because they are at the Carolina Panthers on Thursday.

In the latest high school football polls…Rummel is the unanimous number one team in Class Five-A. Followed by Destrehan, Ponchatoula, Byrd and Jesuit. In One-A, Mangham is the unanimous number one team, followed by Haynesville, Vermilion Catholic, Kentwood and West St John.

LSU’s Kendell Beckwith has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week. Beckwith had a career-high 11 tackles in the Tigers 10-7 win over the Rebels. Running back Leonard Fournette was named the league’s Freshman of the Week. Forunette had 113 yards rushing and 41 yards receiving.

Louisiana Tech will look to stay undefeated in Conference USA play this Saturday when they host Western Kentucky. The Bulldogs are doing an excellent job forcing turnovers as they’s produced 20 of them this season. Louisiana State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash last night in Iberia Parish that claimed the life of a Jeanerette man. Authorities say Michael Dooley of New Iberia was driving his truck on Highway 14 when he turned into the path of a motorcycle driven by 42-year-old Berwick Rhine, Jr. Rhine struck the side of the pickup and was thrown from his motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

This last time LSU fans stormed the field was in 2001 when the Tigers defeated Auburn and secured a trip to the SEC Championship Game.
