State Police has released more information about the fatal shooting of St. John Parish deputy, Lt. Nolan Anderson, who was killed by fellow law enforcement last week. Trooper Melissa Matey says when cops arrived they heard several shots being fired inside the home…

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Police Department says a linebacker was arrested this week on domestic abuse battery charges. Sergeant Bill Abrams says based on statements from the victim and also video evidence they arrested Christian Hill. He says they are unsure of the condition of the victim at this time…

Team officials announce Hill has been suspended indefinitely.

By the end of this fall semester, first-year TOPS students will begin receiving text messages reminding them of their requirements to retain their scholarship. Gus Wales, with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance, says the goal of this new program is pretty straightforward…

State Police released more information today about last week’s fatal shooting of a St. John the Baptist parish deputy by a fellow officer. Trooper Melissa Matey says Lt. Nolan Anderson was heard threatening deputies before they responded to the scene of a violent domestic dispute…

Matey says when deputies arrived, Anderson was holding his wife at gunpoint, then he fired his weapon, which resulted in deputies using lethal force.

A Ragin Cajuns football player has been arrested on domestic abuse battery charges. Sergeant Bill Abrams, with the UL Lafayette Police Department, says Chris Hill was taken into custody after the female victim came forward and the incident was also caught on tape, as it happened in a parking garage on campus…

The 2015 governor’s race now features four major candidates with the entrance of Public Service Commission member Scott Angelle. The former secretary of the department of health and hospitals has entered a not guilty plea on perjury charges. Bruce Greenstein was indicted by a grand jury on September 23rd. He’s accussed of lying about the alleged contact he had with his former employer Client Network Services, which was awarded a 200-million dollar state contract to process Medicaid claims.

We’re heading into a big weekend of college football. Of course the marquee game is Saturday night in Auburn as the 15th ranked LSU Tigers visit the 5th ranked War Eagles. Offensively, Auburn is led by senior quarterback Nick Marshall, who led the War Eagles to the national championship game last season. Tiger Rag Magazine Editor Robert Stewart says Marshall rushed for over one-thousand yards last season and he can also make some plays through the air…

In high school football action last night…Ponchatoula improved to 5-and-0 with a 49-7 win over Northshore. Buckeye suffered its first loss of the season as they fell to Menard 21-7. Catholic High of New Iberia is also off to a 5-and-0 start after beating Notre Dame 56-28. In action tonight…Union Parish faces Ouachita Christian and Calvary Baptist takes on West Monroe.

Louisiana agriculture officials are seeking looser restrictions from the federal government on the use of drones. Farmers can use drones to make crop production more efficient, but current FAA rules make this illegal. LSU AgCenter Vice Chancellor Rogers Leonard says agriculture is probably one of the largest areas where drone use can be done safely…

The FAA will release proposed modified rules and regulations regarding drones next month.

The Council for a Better Louisiana and Louisiana Public Broadcasting are asking the public to submit questions they’d like to see answered during the televised US Senate race debate scheduled for October 14th. The Shreveport debate will feature all three main contenders, Democratic incumbent Mary Landrieu and Republicans Congressman Bill Cassidy and retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Shreveport say a tree fell on a mobile home in Bossier Parish and another on a car in Shreveport as a result of severe weather brought on by a cold front that’s moving through the state. There are no reports of injuries. SWEPCO says about 7,000 customers are currently without power in northwest Louisiana.

There’s been quite a shakeup in the 2015 Governor’s Race as Public Service Commission Member Scott Angelle announces candidacy. He joins fellow Republicans Senator David Vitter and Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne. Political analyst Clancy Dubos says on thing separates Angelle from Dardenne and Vitter and it’s personality…:

Police say a University of Louisiana at Lafayette say linebacker Christian Hill was arrested this week for domestic abuse battery. Campus Police made the arrest but no other details on the charges were immediately available. The Advertiser reports the team announced Hill is suspended indefinitely from the team as the result of an off-field incident.

In the latest national effort to get people to stop texting and driving, the Louisiana Public Service Commission wants motorists to use the hashtag symbol and the letter X in a text message to friends before they start driving. PSC Chairman Erik Skrmetta says he sees numerous people who do not have their hands on the wheel, because they are too busy texting…:

The Shreveport Police Department says a single vehicle crash yesterday afternoon claimed the life of a two year old boy. Investigators say an SUV driven by a woman struck the child in a driveway.

A release from the Governor’s office indicates Louisiana has been recognized among top states for combating human trafficking. We rank as a Tier 1 state for the third year in a row according to Polaris — a leader in the global fight against modern slavery. Officials cited Louisiana for strengthening penalities for human traffickers and protecting victims of crime.

Rough night in northwest Louisiana as the cold front moves through and brings with it a line of thunderstorms that leaves thousands without power and wind damage throughout the region. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Shreveport say a tree fell on a mobile home in Bossier Parish and another on a car in Shreveport. There are no reports of injuries. SWEPCO says many of its customers are in the dark in Caddo Parish, Bossier Parish, Sabine Parish and Natchitoches Parish.

State Climatologist Barry Keim says scattered showers will taper off today and we should be all clear by High School Football time…:

The two teachers from Destrehan High charged with allegeldy having group sex with a then 16-year-old student have posted bond and been released from custody. Kenner Police report 32-year-old Shelly Dufresne and 24-year-old Rachel Respess left jail on $7,000 cash bonds. The women were booked for felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile, indecent behavior with a juvenile and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

New Orleans:

Firefighters in New Orleans say a tanker truck exploded at a gas station around 4am and the driver was killed. Authorities are not releasing the name of the victim at this time and no other injuries were reporter. Some homes in the area near the St. Roch neighborhood were evacuated but residents were allowed to go back home before 6am.

15th ranked LSU is at 5th ranked Auburn tomorrow in a SEC west matchup. The Tigers already have one loss in conference play, a 34-29 loss to Mississippi State. Former New Orleans Saint Darren Sproles, running back for the Eagles, says he was disrespected by coach Sean Payton before he was traded to Philadelphia in March. Sproles made the comments to a NJ.com reporter. He said he was first told he was going to be cut then he had to find out on Twitter that he was being traded which is “just not right.”

The 2015 NFL draft will be happening in Chicago the league announced Thursday — moving from New York where it’s been held for decades. Next year’s draft happens April 30th-May 2nd.

Former Department of Health and Hospitals Secretary Bruce Greenstein, who was indicted on nine felony counts of perjury, turned himself in Thursday. An East Baton Rouge grand jury indictment accuses Greenstein of lying under oath on numerous occasions when asked about his role in a bid process in which DHH, under Greenstein’s leadership, handed out a nearly $200 million contract to his former employer. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish prison and released yesterday.
