New Orleans Police report a fatal shooting occurred last night along the Uptown parade route during the Krewe of Muses parade. A 21-year-old man, who was shot in the chest, died while in surgery. Another victim was shot in the neck and is listed in critical condition. Authorities arrested the suspect shortly after he fled the scene.

Despite last night’s shooting, New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau President Stephen Perry says Mardi Gras season is typically one of the most protected times of the year in New Orleans…

The Saints have re-signed linebacker Parys Haralson to a one-year contract. The 31-year-old has been with the Black and Gold the last two seasons after starting his career in San Francisco. Haralson was credited with 35 tackles and three sacks last season. The Saints also signed kicker Shayne Graham to a one-year deal. The 37-year-old place kicker connected on 19 of 22 fieldgoals last season.

In college hoops, Louisiana Tech holds on to first place in Conference USA with a 65-54 win over Florida Atlantic. Erik McCree and Alex Hamilton lead the way for the Bulldogs scoring 15 each. The Bulldogs are 10-2 in league play and host Florida International tomorrow night.

ULM blew past UL-Lafayette last night 67-55. Tylor Ongwae’s 21 lead the way for the Warhawks, followed by Majok Deng’s 16. The Cajuns were lead by Shawn Long with 13 points. ULM holds on to first place in the Sun Belt as they improve to 11-3 in conference action. They will welcome Appalachian State Saturday. UL-L will look to bounce back Saturday at Troy.

The 2015 college baseball season begins tonight with the second ranked LSU Tigers hosting the Kansas Jayhawks at Alex Box Stadium. Tigers shortstop Alex Bregman believes this team has what it takes to get back to the College World Series…

New Orleans Police made a quick arrest after a shooting last night during the Krewe of Muses parade along the Uptown parade route left one dead and one in critical condition. Officers reportedly heard multiple gunshots and once on the scene found the victims. A 21-year-old victim, shot in the chest, died while in surgery. The second victim is reportedly in critical condition with a wound to the neck. Police apprehended the suspect shortly after the incident. No names have been released at this time.

Lt Governor Jay Dardenne says he’s raised about half that and knows Vitter will have the most money available, but that shouldn’t decide the election…:

Today Governor Bobby Jindal announced Metalplate Galvanizing will make a $9.7 million dollar capital investment to develop a plant in Jennings. The facility is expected to span 50,000 square feet and create 104 new direct jobs with an average annual salary of $46,300 plus benefits.

The LSU baseball team has been picked by the league’s coaches to win the SEC West. The Tigers received 13 first place votes, while Alabama is picked to finish second, followed by Texas A-and-M, Arkansas and Mississippi State. Alex Bregman and Andrew Stevenson are preseason All-SEC first teamers.

Tonight in Monroe, ULM goes for its 400th win in Fant-Ewing Coliseum History as they host the Ragin Cajuns. The Warhawks beat U-L Lafayette 57-55 earlier this season and a win for ULM will keep them in first place in the Sun Belt. Louisiana Tech is in a three-way tie for first place in Conference USA and they host Florida Atlantic tonight.

The Pelicans Anthony Davis will not play in Sunday’s All-Star game as he’ll use the time to rest his injured shoulder. Davis missed his second consecutive game last night and New Orleans lost badly to Indiana 106-93.

The Voice of the Tigers, Jim Hawthorne, has announced that he will retire following the 2015-16 basketball season. Hawthorne first joined LSU as the play-by-play commentator for the men’s basketball team in 1979-80 and will call his final season of LSU baseball, football and basketball before retiring one year from now.
