The Saints will be back in New Orleans this weekend and they will host Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon in the Superdome.

The Pelicans will be featured on national television just two times as the 2025-26 NBA schedule has been released. It might be difficult for New Orleans to get off to a good start. They play seven of their first ten on the road, starting with the season opener on October 22th in Memphis. The home opener is two nights later against San Antonio.

South Florida transfer and Defensive tackle Bernard Gooden has been impressive during preseason camp.

The Saints defense did not have much depth at the cornerback position last season. The Saints took multiple defensive backs in the draft including rookie cornerback Quincy Riley out of Louisville. Riley says it has been a surprisingly smooth transition to the pro level.

A panel of judges on the U-S Fifth Circuit Court of appeals has ruled that the state’s legislative district map for the House and Senate violates the federal Voting Rights Act. The decision upholds a Baton Ruge judge’s ruling that found the boundaries discriminated against Black voters. Another judge on the 5th circuit has paused that ruling, so the case is currently on hold according to A-G Liz Murrill.

 

The first hurricane of the season has formed as Erin formers east of the Caribbean. State Climatologist Jay Grymes says this is about the time we usually see our first hurricane

Louisiana has filed suit against Roblox, claiming the popular online gaming site is violating Louisiana law by not protecting children from sex predators. Attorney General Liz Murrill says it’s easy for a child to register to Roblox and then find harmful content and become victimized by a child predator. Murill says Roblox prioritizes user growth, revenue and profits over child safety…

Murrill filed the lawsuit in Livingston Parish. Sheriff Jason Ard says just last month his deputies arrested an individual suspected of possessing child sexual abuse material and the suspect was actively using Robflox…

Baton Rouge Police Sgt Caleb Eisworth will be laid to rest Saturday. He died Sunday after spending 7 weeks in the hospital being treated for injuries sustained when he was allegedly intentionally hit by a truck while on his motorcycle. Eisworth was a decorated officer who served 23 years. Baton Rouge Police Chief, TJ Morse says Sgt Eisworth impacted many lives.

Police have identified the driver of the truck that hit Eisworth, 41-year-old Gad Black. East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says his office may seek the death penalty for Black.

The New Orleans Saints are battling injuries already this season with two key starters expected to be out a few weeks, offensive guard Trevor Penning and cornerback Alontae Taylor. Tight end Juwan Johnson has a long injury history in the league and he says he wants to prioritize his health to become more available.

Johnson had six catches in yesterday’s joint practice with the Rams. Los Angeles provided a good test for the Saints offense as the Rams defense had success putting pressure on quarterbacks Spencer Rattler and Tyler Shough.

The Saints will be back in New Orleans this weekend as they will host Jacksonville on Sunday. No word on who will start at quarterback.

 

One of the developments at fall camp for LSU is that former Lafayette Christian star and sophomore Ju’Juan Johnson is getting more reps at running back. ESPN Baton Rouge radio host Charles Hanagriff says it will be interesting to see how they utilize Johnson this season…

A federal appeals court has upheld a Louisiana judge’s decision to invalidate the state’s new legislative district maps for House and Senate races, saying they violate section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.  But those maps will stay in place for now…at least until the US Supreme court rules on a similar case disputing Louisiana’s Congressional districts.

Eisworth was a decorated officer who served 23 years in law enforcement and received the Baton Rouge Police Department’s highest honor, the Medal of Valor when he pulled a motorist from a burning car while off duty. Morse says Eisworth says he performed many acts of heroism and impacted many lives.

Murrill says there are nearly 82 million daily active users and 56-percent of its users are under the age of 16. In the lawsuit, the Louisiana A-G claims Roblox allows for the distribution of child sex abuse material, fails to implement basic safety controls to protect child users and it fails to provide notice to parents and child users of its dangers.

Murrill believes Louisiana is the first state to sue Roblox.

The LSU offense has struggled with establishing a run game in the past two seasons. With an offensive line that is not set, the Tigers will have to find ways to be creative. Sophomore Ju’Juan Johnson is taking snaps at quarterback, running back and wide receiver. Hanagriff believes he could be a bridge to LSU’s run game foes.

LSU’s defense has not met its standards for several years up to this season. Head coach Brian Kelly hit the portal heavy while going after players with major experience. Hanagriff says the defensive line depth will help LSU close out games its offense can’t.

A six-year-old Slidell boy is dead after he was hit by an SUV while riding his scooter. St. Tammany Parish Sheriff deputies say the driver of the SUV kept going and has been charged with vehicular homicide, reckless operation and felony hit and run. Lt. Suzanne Carboni says the child was hit on Northshore Lane near Slidell..

Carboni says the vehicle was located later that night and the driver, 35-year-old Cody Beaudette was taken into custody.
