The US Army agrees to pick up the tab on the burning of the 15-million pounds of M6 propellant stored at Camp Minden in Webster Parish. The Department of Justice says the Army will pay the $28 million to dispose of the materials. Minden Representative Gene Reynolds says this means the project can finally get up and going…:

Saturday and Sunday is the 2015 Louisiana Hurricane Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. Hurricane Season starts Monday and Department of Revenue spokeswoman Kizzy Payton says this weekend Louisiana residents can purchase preparedness items without having to pay the 4 percent state sales tax…:

The exemption applies to the first $1500 dollars of the purchase price of each item.

Louisiana residents are bracing for flooding that’s coming within the next week from areas around the Red River. The National Weather Service predicts the Red will crest at 33 feet on June 5th in the Shreveport/Bossier area then down to Alexandria into the following week. Bossier Parish Sheriff Office spokesman Bill Davis says people in low lying areas should keep an eye on the water…:

Former Saints safety Darren Sharper pleads guilty to drug and rape charges Friday in a New Orleans Federal Courtroom. The 39-year-old pleaded guilty to the three counts of conspiracy to distribute drugs then rape women. There is a 9 year prison sentence tied to the so called global plea deal since Sharper is accused in other states.

In a federal courtroom in New Orleans, former NFL player and a member of the Saints Super Bowl team Darren Sharper plead guility to drugging and raping women. His sentencing is set for August 20th. Legal analysts say it’s possible he’ll get a nine year sentence that will run concurrently with the sentence that’s he’s already agreed upon in three other states.

And an Orleans Parish Civil District Court Judge has decided to keep the public out of the court proceedings that will determine if Saints and Pelicans owner Tom Benson is competent to make important business decisions regarding his professional sports franchises. Several media outlets argued that the public should have access, since Benson’s teams receive hundreds of millions of dollars in state money.

The LSU softball team faces Florida tonight at six PM in a winner’s bracket game of the Women’s College World Series.

And Louisiana Tech football has received a verbal commitment from Parkway quarterback Keondre Wudtee.

Louisiana is also about to deal with some flooding along the Red River and authorities are urging residents to be aware and prepare now. The red is expected to crest at levels not seen in 25 years by June 5th in the Shreveport area. Lt. Bill Davis with the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s office says they don’t encourage people to stay in their homes despite flood conditions, but if you choose to stay then stockpile water and plenty of canned foods…:

In New Orleans, former Saints star Darren Sharper has officially pleaded guilty to rape and drug charges in federal court. A nine year prison sentence is part of the plea deal. Sharper faces similar charges in other states and exact details of the apparent “global” plea deal are not being disclosed until he’s sentenced in all of his cases.

In the Senate Thursday lawmakers put a $60 million dollar fee increase on two House bills that would mean drivers pay $50 more in title fees when buying a car. Also being discussed is a nearly $40 increase in the cost of a driver’s license as part of ongoing budget balancing proposals.

It was approved by the Senate on a 21-16 vote, but the House Labor Committee voted 8-5 against the proposal. This is the third equal pay bill the committee has killed this legislative session.

As a team, the Tigers had ten hits on the day, which was plenty enough offense for starting pitcher Carley Hoover. The Tigers will play in a winner’s bracket game tonight at six against defending national champion, Florida. You can watch the game live on ESPN2.

UL Lafayette will take on Rice at 2:30 this afternoon in the opening contest of the Houston Regional. Coach Tony Robichaux says right hander Wyatt Marks will start on the hill. Ed Anderson, a journalist who covered the legislature, state government and many other stories for more than four decades in Louisiana with the Times-Picayune of New Orleans, passed away in Baton Rouge. Both Chambers at the Capitol each held a moment of silence for Anderson Thursday morning. He lost his battle with cancer at the age of 67.

Governor Bobby Jindal says if the medical marijuana bill that is moving through the legislature right now by New Iberia Senator Fred Mills makes it to his desk, he will sign it…:
