The National Institutes of Health has given Tulane $6.7 million dollars in grant money to study the long term impact of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans and the surrounding regions. Mark VanLandingham, professor of global community health and behavioral sciences at Tulane, says a goal of the study is to create a picture of where the city and different groups of survivors stand more than a decade removed from Hurricane Katrina…:

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says they’ve recovered the body of a missing boater from the Atchafalaya River. They say 56-year-old William Seal of Butte LaRose had not been seen since he set off for a day of fishing Sunday morning. His body was turned over to the St. Martin Coroner’s Office to determine a cause of death.

There’s a happy ending after the Slidell Police Department helped an 86-year-old woman locate her wedding ring after she lost it while handing out candy on Halloween. Sgt. Daniel Seuzeneau says the ring was found in the woman’s front yard near where she was giving out candy to trick or treaters…:

The 86-year-old woman from Slidell who was desperatley searching for her wedding ring she thought she lost in a bag of candy Halloween night, has found it. The local police department posted on Facebook that the woman ended up finding it near the spot where she was handing out candy in her front yard. The woman and her family asked cops to help get the word out as it was feared the precious ring could be in a child’s trick or treat bag. The family is thanking everyone who shared the post on Facebook and offered assistance.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a Pineville man is under arrest accused of vandalizing a church. They say agents followed the vehicle of 21-year-old Charles Melancon and he claimed the loud noise they heard was gunshots coming from words. Invesitgators later discovered the church door was kicked in and the suspect later admitted to the crime. Melancon was booked by Grant Parish deputies for unauthorized entry and simple criminal damage to property.

The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office says former NFL player Marvin White, a Port Barre native, has been arrested again and booked with theft and resisting an officer. Capt. Clay Higgins says the 31-year-old walked into a gas station and allegedly took some candy then didn’t pay for it before telling the cashier, “Call the cops, I’m Marvin White. I’m the best.”
