The governor’s office plans to meet with State Police and the East Baton Rouge district attorney’s office over the fatal shooting of Alton Sterling, who was killed after a confrontation with two Baton Rouge police officers. An attorney for Sterling’s family has asked for State Police to take over the investigation and the NAACP says the Baton Rouge police chief should be fired.

According to the Louisiana Entertainment and Film Association, business from the state’s film industry is down 90-percent from a year ago. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Don Pierson admits there’s some uncertainity in the industry and that’s why they will conduct a comprehensive review of the program…

Louisiana will receive a 60-million dollar federal grant to improve traffic flow on Interstate 10. The grant will go towards expanding and improving I-10 between I-49 and the Atchafalaya Basin and state transportation secretary Shawn Wilson says this federal money will allow the state to use its own dollars to fix the I-10 east bottleneck in Baton Rouge near the Mississippi River Bridge…

Cell phone video of Tuesday morning’s fatal shooting by a Baton Rouge police officer has gone viral and it has sparked protests from individuals demanding justice. The video shows two Baton Rouge police officers on top of Alton Sterling and struggling with the 37-year-old man when one of the officers shouts he has a gun. That’s when Sterling was shot multiple times. A state lawmaker has described the shooting as a murder. The two officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Gas prices have fallen on average seven cents over the last month according to a Triple-A’s fuel gage survey. Triple-A spokesperson Mike Right says it’s possible we can see gas prices fall below two-dollars a gallon before the end of the summer…

Tensions are high today near the area where a Baton Rouge police officer fatally shot a 37-year-old man following a struggle. Cell phone video shows two officers on top of Alton Sterling, when he was shot several times. Baton Rouge Representative Ted James has called the shooting a murder. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.

Tulane will reportedly interview LSU hitting coach Andy Cannizaro and Southeastern Louisiana head coach Matt Riser as the Green Wave look for a new baseball coach. Cannizaro has spent two seasons at LSU and also played at Tulane, where he was named an all-american on two occassions. Riser has been the head coach of the Lions for the last three seasons and also played at Tulane.

Former LSU Tiger Will Harris has made the American League All-Star team. Harris has been sensational out of the bullpen for the surging Houston Astros. He’s posted a 0.74 ERA in 36 relief appearances and has eight saves. Former Ragin Cajuns standout Jonathan Lucroy has been named to the National League All-Star team for a second time. After a down season in 2015, Lucroy has bounced back to hit .296 in his seventh season in the big leagues. The Major League All-Star game is Tuesday July 12th.

LSU athletes, coaches, and support staff will undergo sexual harassment sensitivity training and awareness classes. Deputy Athletic Director Eddie Nunez says they are increasing their efforts on this topic after troubling reports of sexual assaults involving athletes at other schools….

Saints Safety Roman Harper told a Charlotte TV station he can’t wait to face his old team again. Harper spent the last two seasons with the Panthers, helping Carolina reach the Super Bowl last season. He says the thrash talk has already started. The Black and Gold host the NFC Champs on October 16th and travel to Carolina for a Thursday night game on November 17th.

 The lawsuit seeks to get a judge to determine the state’s new 72 hour waiting period for a woman to get an abortion is illegal and they are also challenging the ban of the so-called dismemberment abortion, which is commonly used in the second trimester. Just in time for summer vacations, drivers are seeing prices go down at the pump. AAA spokesperson Mike Right says we could see gas prices below $2 a gallon before the end of the summer.

Gas prices have been falling for the past few weeks, and Right says that’s unusual during the summer months. He says this time last year, the statewide average was $2.55 a gallon, and today the average is $2.08.

Right says the decline is due to lower crude oil prices and an abundant supply with not enough demand. He says although we’re seeing demand go up in the US, that doesn’t seem to be the case in other countries.

Changes were made to the state’s film tax incentive program in 2015. Legislators agreed to put a cap on the credits redeemed, as a way to cut down on costs to the state. Pierson admits there has been some uncertainty in the industry and that’s something they want to address.

The grant will be used to improve and expand I-10 between Lafayette and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge. And Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says this federal money will allow the state to use dollars to address the bottleneck on I-10 east as you come over the Mississippi River Bridge from West Baton Rouge parish.

Graves says the work on Interstate 110 should begin by 2017 to fix the only part of the country where the interstate goes down to one lane. The grant comes as a result of the federal FASTLANE Program, and Graves helped bring that money to Louisiana. Department of Transportation Secretary Shawn Wilson says this grant will allow the state to prepare for other important transportation projects.

Wilson says also in the planning stage is the I-20 to 220 interchange into Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport. The secretary says this federal money will help the state pay for roadway projects that have been ignored for years.

Only two other schools conduct this kind of training, according to LSU President F. King Alexander. Nunez says their classes will be very broad and address everything from human relations risks to prevention of harassment and abuse.

He says the initial training for the Tigers’ 400 athletes and 250 employees will be led by former Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe’s firm. Republican members of Louisiana’s Congressional delegation have been highly critical of an FBI investigation that determined Hillary Clinton should not face federal charges for using a private email account to send classified material. US Representative Charles Boustany believes Clinton should drop out of the presidential race.

One man is dead and another is in the hospital following a shooting in Shreveport on Independence Day. Cpl. Marcus Hines says 33-year-old Antonio Collins and 32-year-old Exzavious Thomas were next door neighbors arguing over shooting fireworks…:

It’s award watch list season. LSU junior running back Leonard Fournette was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, which goes to the College Player of the Year. It’s a second straight year Fournette has appeared on the Maxwell Award preseason watch list after he rushed for 1,953 yards and a school record 22 touchdowns as a sophomore.

UL Lafayette running back Elijah McGuire is also on the Maxwell Award Watch List after he rushed for over one-thousand yards and 13 touchdowns last season. McGuire also caught 34 passes for three TDs.

Also, LSU linebacker Kendell Beckwith, senior cornerback Tre’Davious White and junior safety Jamal Adams were all named to the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch list. The Bednarik Award goes to the College Defensive Player of the Year. Beckwith was a semifinalist last year after finishing second on the team in tackles.

Ragin Cajuns men’s basketball coach Bob Marlin says USC guard Malik Marquetti will transfer to UL Lafayette and be eligible to play the 2017-18 season. The Compton, California native was a team captain for the Trojans team that made the NCAA Tournament this past season. He appeared in 27 games and averaged two points a contest.

Nick Phillips has been named the new director of athletic media relations at ULM. Phillips comes to Monroe after holding a similar position at UNC Asheville. He’s also a former Sports Information Director at LSU-Eunice.

State Police are upping their efforts to enforce the “Move Over” law after several officers were struck by vehicles while working on the side of the road. State Police Sgt. Jared Sandifer says people should always watch out for any emergency vehicle on the side of the road, including police, EMS, firefighters and tow trucks.

According to the “Move Over America” campaign, over 70% of Americans do not know about move over laws.

An officer involved shooting outside a Baton Rouge convenience store left one man dead. The convenience store clerk told a Baton Rouge TV station he saw 37-year-old Alton Sterling carrying a gun but did not have it out at the time of the shooting. Cpl. ‘Jean McKneely says one officer is on administrative leave and the investigation is ongoing.

The coroner has said that Sterling was shot multiple times in the chest and back.

Hundreds of Louisiana workers will be out of work as a result of GE Oil and Gas in Pineville closing its doors. Pineville Mayor Clarence Fields says the company is closing its Pineville facility to move its operation to their other location in Jacksonville, Florida. He says he is disappointed to see this company move to another state.
