More endorsements were handed out in the US Senate race. The Jefferson Parish Republican Executive Committee says its backing Republican Congressman Charles Boustany. While Republican State Treasurer John Kennedy says he has the support from former GOP governor Mike Foster.

Starting today, strip clubs in Louisiana can no longer have anyone under the age of 21 dancing. Many strip club owners are not happy with this new law. John Geiger works at a strip club in Port Allen and says the dancers are just trying to earn a living…

A-five-year-old boy from Houma has died in a tragic boating accident. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spokesperson Adam Einck says Ethan Hancock and his father were frogging in the Intracoastal Waterway when they ran out of gas. They attempted to swim to shore, but two barges close-by sucked Ethan under the water. Einck says it’s best to always be prepared when on the water…

A new law goes into effect today that means strippers at clubs in Louisiana will have to be at least 21 years old and sources say the dancers are considering legal action. John Geiger is a bouncer at the Crazy Horse club in Port Allen. Geiger says this means dancers under the age of 21 will have to perform other jobs in the clubs or go out of state, which could be more dangerous.

Geiger says he knows there are concerns about sex trafficking, but he says he’s never seen that happen at any of the clubs he’s worked. He says the dancers are just trying to earn a living.

Geiger says they believe the law is unconstitutional because it infringes on a person’s right to work. He says they will pursue legal action.

The Louisiana Department of Revenue has put out a warning that some Louisiana taxpayers are being targeted by scam artists. L-D-R spokesperson Byron Henderson says one woman in East Baton Rouge parish received a phone call in which she was told she was prequalified for a program that could help her resolve a tax lien.

Henderson says scammers often use public information to target a taxpayer. He says another method tries to convince people to reveal private financial information, which is called ‘phishing.’

Many of these scam artists claim to be with the Department of Revenue, the IRS, or other state agencies. Henderson says they will never contact a taxpayer to request personal information over the phone, instead they will typically request some form of documentation.

A 5-year-old has died after a boating accident in Lafourche Parish. Adam Einck with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says 5-year-old Ethan Hancock and his father were frogging in the Intracoastal Waterway when they ran out of gas. He says the father tried paddling out, but two barges came too close to their mudboat, so they jumped into the water.

Einck says they were both wearing lifejackets. He says the boy’s body was recovered at 7:30 yesterday morning, and father was not injured in the incident.

Einck says this waterway is heavily trafficked by these large boats. He says you should let someone know when you will be on the water so they can get help if you don’t return. He says it’s best to always be prepared when out on the water.

He has felt the red light cameras are somewhat of a money grab, but if those in support truly have the best interest of drivers in mind – then they should have no problem with this law…:

Also today children won’t be ticketed for running a lemonade stand, fines for not buckling up are increased, and sex offenders can’t be door to door salesmen. Louisiana’s hate crime law has also been expanded today to include protections for police and other first responders. Drivers will also soon know where red light cameras are located under a measure requiring municipalities to post a sign within 500 feet of each camera.

A 44-year-old man also drowned in Lafourche Parish over the weekend.

The National Hurricane Center continues to watch a tropical wave in the Caribbean Sea about 350 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica and moving in a westerly direction. It continues to show signs of organization and could become Tropical Storm Earl by day’s end.

The LaFourche Parish Sheriff’s office says a mother fatally shot her young daughter, then shot herself in an apparent murder-suicide. Spokesperson Brennan Matherne says the little girl’s father discovered the horrific scene and called 9-1-1 just before noon on Sunday…

After the fatal shooting of law enforcement officers in Baton Rouge, there were social media threats made against law enforcement in Caddo and St. Charles parishes. Harris says this law applies to those criminal acts.

There were two separate boating fatalities over the weekend, including one that claimed the life of a 5 year old boy. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries say the child, Ethan Hancock, was frogging with his father when they both went into the Intracoastal Waterway after a barge came up from behind them. Hancock was sucked under the tug boat. 44-year-old Robert Sims hit a piling while on a boat near Grand Isle and suffered serious head trauma and died.

After four confirmed cases of locally transmitted Zika were reported in Florida, state officials in Louisiana say were are ready in case that happens here.
