A levee breach at a Mississippi sewage plant caused six million gallons of waste to be released into the Bouge Chitto River in St. Tammany parish, prompting a water advisory from the Louisiana Department of Health. State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says it will take at least a week to know exactly what we’re dealing with, as the contamination has spread through the river.

Less than 6-percent of last year’s Livingston parish school enrollment count missed the first day back after the flood. Livingston School Superintendent Rick Wentzel says there were some areas that had lower first day turnouts than others, as a lot of students had to transfer to other schools in the district.

The body of a 6-year-old boy who went missing yesterday has been found in Lafayette parish. Youngsville Police Chief Ricky Boudreaux says they had a feeling Keaton Jones was near a pond close to his house, but initial searches turned up nothing.

Boudreaux says after the dives and sonar, they drained the pond and found the boy.

Authorities say a dangerous Assumption parish inmate has been captured after he escaped police custody Wednesday. Lonny Cavalier 44-year-old Drake Domangue escaped while being transferred to St. Mary parish for mental health evaluation and treatment.

Authorities say a dangerous, escaped Assumption parish inmate has been captured. Lonny Cavalier with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office says on Sunday night they got a call from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office with some good news about 44-year-old Drake Domangue of Houma.

Cavalier says Domangue is wanted by Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes for felony charges and parole violations. He says the inmate also has numerous traffic violations, and he was being held in Assumption parish on several charges.

Cavalier says Domangue was able to escape Wednesday while he was being transferred from the Assumption Parish Detention Center to St. Mary parish for mental health evaluation and treatment. He says upon arrival at the mental health facility, Domangue escaped from deputies.

State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says the Department of Environment Quality is testing the water, but people should stay out of the river.

Guidry warns people that microorganisms can enter the body through the mouth, nose, eyes, ears and open wounds. He says it will take at least a week to know exactly what we’re dealing with as the contamination travels through the entire length of the river.

Guidry advises people not to swim near drainage pipes and avoid ingesting water. He says the levee breach has now been fixed.

The body of a missing 6-year-old autistic boy was found early this morning in Lafayette Parish. Youngsville Police Chief Ricky Boudreaux says Keaton Jones was reported missing yesterday afternoon. He says the child was tragically discovered a little after 4am in a pond near his home.

Boudreaux says Keaton was known to wander and left the home yesterday afternoon through a door to the garage that was left open. He says Keaton was autistic and nonverbal and liked being around water.

Boudreaux says the family and neighbors searched for Keaton for two hours before calling the authorities. When police arrived they enlisted the help of several other agencies. He says they had a feeling he was near the pond, but initial searches turned up nothing.

Almost 95-percent of Livingston parish students showed up for the first day back to class September 12th after the historic flood. Livingston School Superintendent Rick Wentzel says more than 24-thousand students returned to school last week. He says they were pleasantly surprised at the turnout.

Less than 6-percent of last year’s October 1 enrollment count missed the first day back. Wentzel says there were some areas that had lower first day turnouts than others, as a lot of students had to transfer to other schools in the district.

Wentzel says even the hardest hit schools are only down about 20-percent in enrollment. Southside Elementary reportedly had the lowest enrollment, down about one-third over last year. He says the high percentage of students are back in the classroom is a testament to the community and the school system.

Sad story out of Caddo Parish. Police say a school bus driver died after she was hit by a car in a roadway she was crossing to get to her bus. According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old Karen Scroggins was going to her bus to begin her route around 6:30 this morning when she was struck. She was taken by ambulance to University Health, where she later died.

The city of Walker in Livingston Parish has signed a contract with a law firm possibly to file a suit against DOTD regarding the flooding. Mayor Rick Ramsey has said that the flooding that came into his city was the result of a concrete barrier in the middle of I-12 that wasn’t allowing the water to flow over the interstate, but instead cover Walker.

The number of people who have signed up for Louisiana’s Medicaid expansion program continues to grow, surpassing 300,000. The Louisiana Department of Health released the latest figures Monday, saying more than 304,000 people are enrolled for the coverage that began July 1.

The Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning in Lacassine. They say deputies arrived at a residence and found the 21-year-old male victim laying face up on a dock near the bayou and learned he’d been pulled from the water by his father. Despite efforts to revive Scott James Borne, he never resumed a pulse and was pronounced deceased on scene.

The LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing has been ranked the ninth best nursing school in the country by the Nursing Schools Almanac. The body of a missing 6-year-old was found this morning. Keaton Jones of Youngsville reportedly went missing yesterday afternoon, sparking a multi-agency investigation. The child was found early this morning in a pond near his home.

An Acadia parish woman is trying to get her spider monkey back after he was taken by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. Justine Quinn says she’s worried about her monkey Darwin because another woman’s primate died in LDWF’s care.

Louisiana Office of Tourism has been named the 2016 State Tourism Office of the Year by the Southeast Tourism Society. That’s according to Lt. Gov. He says they want to get more people involved in promoting tourism in the Bayou State.

Baton Rouge Police say they’ve arrested a man who become out of control and, wearing only underwear, tried to attack police before ramming a cop car into a mobile home. They say 35-year-old Jeremy Saylor, who is suspected to have been under the influence of the synthetic drug Mojo, displayed “superhuman strength” and got into a police vehicle, tried to run the officers over then rammed it into a mobile home.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fatal blaze in Ville Platte that claimed the life of a 62-year-old man. They say first responders were working to suppress the flames around 1am Sunday when they located the lifeless body of James Malveaux. There were no smoke alarms found in the residence. The Evageline Parish Coroner is conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

State law prohibits owning exotic animals, but Justine Quinn of Church Point says she’s had her monkey since before the law went into effect. Louisiana state health officials are warning residents to stay away from the Bogue Chitto River after approximately 6 million gallons of sewage water spilled into the east branch of the river from a Mississippi levee breach Friday. They say this sewage release will add contaminates that can result in elevated levels of unhealthy bacteria. They’ve issued a water contact advisory for swimming and fishing in the Bogue Chitto River for its entire length in Louisiana.
