LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva spoke to reporters today to talk about the firing of Les Miles, and introduce Ed Orgeron as interim head coach. He said they like Miles but felt that, at this time, Coach O is the right man to take over the program…:

Miles spoke for the first time since the firing today on the “Dan Patrick Show on DirecTV’s Audience.” He said he did not fight Alleva’s decision because he wants what everyone wants and that’s what’s best for the Tigers. Miles also indicated he would like to coach again…:

Presidential candidates, Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, will duke it out tonight in their first debate. The debate will air from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Central Time. ULM Political Science Professor Dr. Joshua Stockley expects viewers will see the combination of information and typical candidate sparring. He says these are two individuals who recognize the clock is ticking on the campaign and the polls are tight.

Stockley says both Trump and Clinton will take shots at each other in an attempt to demonstrate to Americans how the other candidate is unfit…

A new poll shows it’s a tight race for the open US Senate seat in Louisiana. John Couvillon, with JMC Analytics and Polling, says five candidates have an opportunity to make the runoff as there’s been movement since he surveyed this race in July.

The poll paid for by Congressman John Fleming’s campaign shows Congressman Charles Boustany and Public Service Commissioner Foster Campbell are tied for the lead at 15-percent, and Fleming and New Orleans attorney Caroline Fayard are just behind them at third and fourth place respectively. Couvillon says former front runner John Kennedy’s numbers have dropped 7 percentage points to 11-percent.

Couvillon says the poll also found that 25-percent of voters are still undecided, which he says is not surprising.

The ACLU of Louisiana is reacting to reports about a man who was arrested in Lafayette and charged with “flag desecration.” Charri Mohamad was booked for allegedly being shown on tape burning an American flag, and tearing up another. In a release, the ACLU of Louisiana says it is not a crime to destroy or damage the flag, and an arrest like this is a violation of Mohamad’s first amendment rights.

Baton rouge Police are investigating a fatal crash that took the life of a driver and ejected a small child from the vehicle before it burst into flames. They say it happened last night as a Cadillac Deville entered the lane of another vehicle and struck it on Airline Highway. The Cadillac, driven by 24-year-old Ronald Dunn, then crashed and rolled throwing the small child from the vehicle. Dunn died, but the child is in stable condition. The crash remains under investigation.

A man who was convicted in August of second degree murder in the death of his wife in 1962 has been sentenced to life in prison. A jury found Felix Vail guilty of killing Mary Horton Vail and trying to make it look like a drowning accident on the Calcasieu River.

A new book alleges Congressman Charles Boustany was involved with prostitutes who were murdered in Jefferson Davis parish. Author Ethan Brown says a lot of media outlets have been reporting the claims against the congressman, but in all the stories he’s seen, reporters have noted that they have not been able to independently verify the allegations.

The Saints look for their first win of the season tonight as they host NFC South rival Atlanta. New Orleans has yet to get tight end Coby Fleener involved in the offense. Fleener was signed a free agent in the offseason and has just three catches. Brees expects Fleener to be a major contributor as the season moves along…

The Saints will not have left tackle Terron Armstead tonight as he’s been ruled out , because of a knee injury. There are also reports that wide receiver Willie Snead and Safety Kenny Vaccaro will also miss the game because of the injuries.

After 11 plus seasons and 114 wins, Les Miles is no longer the head coach at LSU. Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron were let go after a loss to Auburn dropped the Tigers out of the AP Top 25. Safety Jamal Adams says Miles spoke with the team before he left.

Congressman Garret Graves is not happy that flood victims are still struggling a month after the flood. He says if people can’t repair their homes, there will be less property tax revenue to fund schools, fire departments and drainage systems.

Tonight’s Saints game marks ten years since the Superdome reopened after Hurricane Katrina. Former Governor Kathleen Blanco faced criticism for trying to get it reopened so quickly when thousands of people needed help. She says they got funds from the NFL and FEMA that could only go towards repairs for the building. She says in the end, she received many public apologies.

It took nine months to repair the stadium after the devastating storm.

The new book Murder on the Bayou by Ethan Brown explores the murders of 8 prostitutes in Jefferson Davis parish and alleges that Congressman Charles Boustany was involved with the women. Brown says there is no question that a staffer at Boustany’s office also worked at the Boudreaux Inn, where the women would perform their services.

Congressman Garret Graves of Baton Rouge has drafted legislation that aims to get people help faster after disasters. He says flood insurance companies typically have to give homeowners answers within 30 days and he wants the National Flood Insurance Program to do the same. He wants to get this measure pushed through quickly…:

A 45-year-old Baton Rouge man walking on a roadway early Sunday morning was hit and killed according to police. They say Reginald Holden died after being struck by a Chevrolet Equinox.

It’s been 10 years since the Mercedes Benz Superdome reopened after Hurricane Katrina, as the Saints and Falcons prepare to kickoff tonight in New Orleans. Kathleen Blanco was governor at the time and says even though she was criticized for it, Saints owner Tom Benson promised if they could open the Superdome before the 2006 season, he wouldn’t move the franchise:

She says the opening and win that night over the Falcons revived the city and she received many apologies afterwards.

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an apparent Sunday murder-suicide. It’s reported that 67-year-old Larry Townsend shot and killed 68-year-old Linda Townsend, his wife, before turning the gun on himself. JPSO is trying to determine a motive.

State Police say a woman from Bastrop died after being hit by a vehicle driven by a 73-year-old man while she was trying to cross US Highway 165. They say William Hendrix Jr of Bastrop was traveling on 165 around 12:45am Sunday morning, when he struck the pedestrian, 38-year-old Lela Brandon. Brandon was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The former governor says despite criticism, she knew they could turn the dome into a symbol of victory…:

New Orleans Police say they arrested seven people in an otherwise uneventful demonstration over the Andrew Jackson statue in Jackson Square. An activist group said they were going to take the statue down, but the city warned that vandalizing public property is a crime. Take Em Down Nola backs plans to remove several local monuments to the Confederacy, and has complained about the city’s delay in taking them down.
