Gas prices are once again on the rise, and GasBuddy predicts this year we will see the highest gas prices in three years. Senior petroleum analyst Gregg Laskoski says drivers can still save money at the pump. He advises people to look for the best deals because prices vary even in the same city.

Drivers can expect to pay more at the pump this year, as GasBuddy forecasts the highest prices in three years. Senior Petroleum Analyst Greg Laskowski says right now the statewide average is $2.16, which is about 40-cents higher than a year ago and a spike is likely later this winter and spring.

Laskowski says the national average price of gas for the year will be about $2.49 a gallon, and in 2016 that average was $2.13. He credits an energy friendly president taking office with some of the increase. But he says the price hike is predominantly because of OPEC’s decision to cut back on production.

Laskowski expects prices to peak in May or June and the yearly average is expected to be 36-cents higher. But he says people can still save at the pump, whether or not prices are rising. He advises people to watch the prices in their neighborhood and look for the best deals. He says gas prices can vary greatly in a city.

State Health Officer Dr. Jimmy Guidry says there’s always been a fee to pay for state inspections but the legislature and governor agreed to increase the fee by another 75-cents per month starting in January, because health risks are getting higher…

Funding to monitor water systems was cut in 2012. Guidry says this fee is necessary because they want to ramp up testing on drinking water.

Guidry says they want to prevent another St. Joseph, where the drinking water is brown and lead has been found in the pipes of the town’s delivery system. He says while the fee increase will not fix all the problems, it will allow for improved testing of drinking water.

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is teaming up with Dunkin’ Donuts to open 69 new locations in Louisiana. Marketing manager with Dunkin’ Donuts in Louisiana, Erin Sheeran, says there are currently 5 stores in the Bayou State in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. She anticipates Brees will be hands on when it comes to expanding the Dunkin Donuts brand.

Sheeran says a few stores are set to open this year in Gonzales, Chalmette, and Kenner. Other stores are also expected to open in Monroe, Shreveport, and Alexandria in the next few years. She says fans could catch a glimpse of the future Hall of Famer in the new store locations.

The National Weather Service says at least eight tornadoes touched down in Louisiana on Monday. An EF-1 hit in Beauregard Parish with wind speeds topping out at 110 miles per hour. Powerlines were down and between 10 to 25 homes were damaged. 70 buildings were affected in Bukie as there were four tornadoes between Alexandria and Marksville.

 

Saints Quarterback Drew Brees is joining the Dunkin’ Donuts team to open up 69 new donut shops in the state. Marketing manager with Dunkin’ Donuts in Louisiana, Erin Sheeran, says currently, the Bayou State has 5 locations in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. LRN Website Update

Hello affiliates,

It seems like many of our website issues have been resolved. I’ve checked with a couple of stations and they are now able to download programs off our site. If you are still having problems let me know, because I thought we’ve reached the finish line before. I’ve been told we could still have intermittent problems, but it’s operating much more efficiently than this morning. Again, thanks for your patience.

There are 15 finalists for the Class of 2017 NFL Hall of Fame and three of them have ties to Louisiana. Former Saints kicker Morten Anderson is a finalist for a fourth time. He spent his first 13 seasons in New Orleans and finished his 25 year career in the NFL as the league’s all-time leading scorer.

Former LSU Tigers Alan Faneca and Kevin Mawae are also among the finalists. Faneca was named to the All-Pro team eight times and won a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mawae played for 16 seasons in the NFL and started eight games. He blocked for 13 1,000 rushers during his career.

The LSU men’s basketball team is at Missouri tonight for an 8:00 tip-off. The Bayou Bengals are looking to snap a two game losing streak. In both games, they’ve been torched for 16 three-pointers. But they face a Missouri team that ranks 13th in the league in scoring and they have an overall record of 5-7.

In the SWAC tonight…Grambling is at a winless Alabama A-and-M team while Southern hosts Texas Southern. Both teams are 5-9 on the year.

The Pelicans are off tonight, but tomorrow the Atlanta Hawks make their only appearance in the Smoothie King Center. The Pels Buddy Hield was named the league’s Rookie of the Month for his performance in December. He averaged nearly 11 points a game and shot 48-percent from three-point territory
