Former LSU running back Leonard Fournette recorded a vertical leap of 28.5 inches at the NFL combine today, which some say is a red flag after a season with injuries. He impressed in the 40 yard dash though which he ran in 4.51 seconds. Fourtnette measured 6-feet tall and 240 pounds at the combine.

Tonight when the Pelicans take the court against the Spurs, New Orleans point guard Jrue Holiday says he will donate $1,000 for every point and every assist he records to assist those who were impacted by the tornadoes that hit southeast Louisiana last month. Holiday is currently averaging 16 points per game and 7.3 assists per game.

According to the Big Lead, Baton Rouge native Kaylee Hartung, is leaving her job at ESPN & the SEC Network for a national correspondent position at CNN. She will reportedly be a news reporter and contribute features at her new job.

LSU will play some of the best of the Big 12 this weekend when they compete in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic at Minute Maid Park. Tonight, LSU faces top ranked TCU, tomorrow undefeated Baylor and Sunday 21st ranked Texas Tech. Shortstop Kramer Robertson played in this event in 2015 and the Tigers won all three games, beating Houston, Baylor and Nebraska. Big crowds are expected this weekend and Robertson says at least they know what it’s like to play in front of several thousand fans…:

Jan McGovern with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the ALAS program teaches archery skills to kids in 3rd to 12th grade and gives students a lifelong skill and allows them to participate in a team sport…:

A former-Neville high school choir teacher is facing additional counts amid allegations he was involved in inappropriate relationships with students. 25-year-old Christian Amos was arrested for allegedly giving pot to students and possibly enticing them to have sex with them. BESE Representative Gary Jones says if convicted, Amos will likely never teach again.

Amos resigned as the Neville choir director in January without explanation. The suspect is being held at Ouachita Correctional Center on a laundry list of charges. Jones says the acts the former choir director is accused of are outrageous.

Amos’ charges include prohibited sexual conduct between a student and educator, contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, and distribution of marijuana. At least five victims have come forward with claims that Amos provided them with weed at his apartment and requested sexual acts. Jones says if convicted, Amos’ record will prevent him from being hired anywhere in the state.

Nearly 300 airmen in the Louisiana National Guard are deploying to Europe, and a farewell ceremony is being held in their honor on Saturday in New Orleans. Maj. Jesse Hasenkampf says they’re sending 270 airmen and 12 F-15 fighter jets to the European Command.

Hasenkampf says demonstrating the United States’ commitment to NATO is a national priority. He says for LANG to be able to participate is an honor and a privilege. He says the airmen will participate in critical training missions during the 90 day deployment.

Hasenkampf says the deployment ceremony will take place at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans at 2pm. He says this is a chance for the airmen to bid farewell to their families and for LANG to honor their service.

She says the insects are more active when the weather is a little warmer but rain is also factor that plays into an increase in mosquitos.

An East Baton Rouge Parish motorcycle deputy has been injured after he was struck by another vehicle just after noon today. The deputy was taken to a Baton Rouge hospital where he is in stable condition but has a broken shoulder. Authorities have not said whether the other driver will be cited in the incident.

Nine parishes are eligible for disaster assistance as a result of a recent drought, according to Ag Commissioner Mike Strain. They are Bossier, Caddo, Concordia, East Carroll, Madison, Morehouse, Tensas, Union and West Carroll. Farmers and ranchers located in these parishes are eligible for low-interest emergency loans from the Farm Service Agency.

The latest West Baton Rouge work release inmate that escaped has been captured by the US Marshal Service at a hotel in Oklahoma City, according to officials. They say 34-year-old David Graham walked off his job Wednesday morning, and he now faces an escape charge on top of an original drug charge, that could lead to an additional six months to a year behind bars. He will also be kicked out of the work release program.

The third annual Louisiana Winter Beer Festival is tomorrow in Lake Charles. Co-chair and co-found of the festival Nick Vallaume says the big focus is on Louisiana breweries. He says over 125 beers are on the menu from about 45 different breweries this year…:

It appears as though the Saints may be exploring trade offers for wide receiver Brandin Cooks. It’s reported that the Titans and Philadelphia are in the mix. Cooks has been vocal about his frustration with his role with the Saints; which also includes Michael Thomas and Willie Snead. Coach Sean Payton didn’t deny talks Thursday saying that whenever a team calls they listen to what they have to say.

College hoops, UNO fell to conference foe Southeastern last night 63-58, but since Northwestern State beat Stephen F Austin, 72-67, the Privateers are in sole possession of first place in the league standings. The Lions clinched their fifth straight trip to the Southland Conference Tournament with the win. The Demons stay alive and could get a berth if they win tomorrow against Central Arkansas.
New Orleans will have a chance to win the Southland title outright when the Privateers travel to face Nicholls State on Saturday. Last night the Colonels fell to Lamar, 87-75. A win over UNO would put the Colonels into the tournament.

In the Sun Belt, UL-Lafayette picked up a 94-84 overtime victory over Texas State — a fifth straight win for the Ragin Cajuns. ULM fell to the top ranked team in the league, UT Arlington, 72-57.

In the NBA, the Pelicans host the top team in the Southwestern Division, San Antonio. New Orleans only victory since the All-Star break was without their new player, DeMarcus Cousins. Tipoff tonight is 8:30.

A program that covers most of the cost of private and charter school tuition for low income students is growing rapidly, giving students zoned for failing schools an option other than taxpayer funded vouchers. The tuition donation rebate program was established in a bill by River Ridge Representative Kirk Talbot. Talbot says there are several programs that administer the scholarship…

More 20-thousand taxpayers in Louisiana are due a refund from the federal government and time is running out to claim them. I-R-S spokesperson Bill Brunson says these people haven’t received their refund, because they didn’t file a 2013 federal income tax return. He says citizens due this cash must file the necessary paperwork by April 18.
