A homeowner in Mandeville held some kids at gunpoint when he busted a group rolling houses. Police Chief Gerald Sticker says homeowner Craig Scott wasn’t wise to take matters into his own hands and he now faces charges of aggravated assault and obstruction of a roadway because he blocked the teens in the subdivision when armed with a semi-automatic pistol. LSU says three people were injured today after the Paul M. Hebert Law Center caught fire. They believe the three were electrical workers hurt when the blaze was started possibly by a high voltage wire.

Turnout is expected to be dismal and some legislators are questioning the validity of holding so many elections. Secretary of State Tom Schedler completely agrees.

State Fire Marshal Butch Browning is reminding residents as we’re turning our clocks back an hour on Sunday, it’s also a good opportunity to check the batteries in your smoke detector. He says another option could be to switch to a smoke alarm with a lithium battery. He says the battery is already sealed inside and activates when installed on the ceiling.

A 67-year-old grandmother is dead in Plaquemine after her grandson accidentally shot her Thursday. Authorities say 19-year-old Blaise Horton was holding a gun in a house when Kathleen Fulton was killed. Police Chief Kenny Payne says Horton didn’t know there was a single bullet remaining in the chamber.

The bullet grazed the dog and struck Fulton in the back.

A three-year-old toddler died as the result of an accidental shooting late Thursday in Arnaudville. The toddler was taken to a hospital and airlifted to another medical center where he later died. Major Ginny Higgins with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says it’s important that gun owners are responsible with their weapons.

Early voting for the November 18 election is open starting today.  There is a state treasurer race, New Orleans mayoral contest and local propositions in 32 parishes to be decided.  Secretary of State Tom Schedler predicts a very low turnout for this election.  Only 13 percent turned out for the October 18 election and he’s predicting around 10 or 11 percent this time around.

As we’re turning our clocks back an hour on Sunday for Daylight Saving Time, State Fire Marshal Butch Browning reminds residents now is a good time to check the batteries in your smoke alarm. GOP leaders on Capitol Hill unveiled today the key details in a new tax plan. The proposal lowers the number of tax brackets from seven to four, and increases the standard deductions. Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins says this is major reform which is pro citizen and pro economic growth…:

A Morning Consult poll has Governor Edwards approval rating at 52-percent. LSU Political Science Professor Robert Hogan says that’s a solid number for Democratic governor in a red state, but Edwards faces some big challenges in the coming months…
