The state Department of Health announces new data shows there are fewer opioids being prescribed since Medicaid expansion began in July 2016. This comes amid recent claims by Republican Attorney General Jeff Landry that the better access to healthcare is fueling the opioid crisis. But in a release from the Governor’s Office, the Board of Pharmacy says there was a 2 percent reduction in the number of opioid prescriptions from the year before Medicaid expansion to the year after.

There’s a new program in Louisiana which aims to grow the workforce by educating adults who don’t have a high school diploma. Jason Beard is the senior manager for Educational Testing Service. He says the program is called WorkReady-the letter U…:

It’s estimated 600,000 adults in Louisiana didn’t graduate high school.

State Police say they are investigating an officer involved shooting out of Terrebonne Parish in which a subject was killed. They say early investigations revealed deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Department were responding to a domestic dispute, and when they arrived they encountered a man who was armed and had barricaded himself inside. At some point, the man was shot by deputies and died at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

An F-15 flyover over Tiger Stadium, to coincide with Veterans Day, will take place as originally scheduled despite being canceled the day before. The planes are expected to fly north to south over Tiger Stadium just as the National Anthem is ending before the 11am kickoff between LSU and Arkansas. The last time the Tigers played in Death Valley in the morning was 2011.

Early voting for the November 18th election ends at 6pm today. On the ballot is a race for state treasurer, and a historic mayoral election in New Orleans.

The seat, located on the ground level in the north endzone, serves as a tribute to tribute to prisoners of war and soldiers who are missing in action. The “Chair of Honor” will be a permanent fixture in Tiger Stadium, be guarded during games and remain empty.

A pilot was killed when a small plane crashed in Rapides Parish, according to the Sheriff’s Office. They said the single-engine private aircraft was found in thick brush near Alexandria. Further details, including the name of the pilot or where he was going, have not been released. The FAA is investigating the crash.

Davis was transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.  State Police Sgt. James Anderson says everyone was wearing their seatbelts, but due to the magnitude of this accident, the safety measure did not help…

A jury in Rapides Parish found 17-year-old Donasty Cohen guilty of manslaughter in the death of her 27-day-old baby. District Attorney Phillip Terrell says the infant’s father, 17-year-old Kenneth Anderson, is currently in jail awaiting trial. He says Cohen will be sentenced on December 4^th.
