The first few ads of the governor’s run-off race are in rotation as the first barrage in what one analyst says will be the most expensive one-month period ever in Louisiana political history. Political consultant Roy Fletcher says an incredible 20-million dollars will likely be spent over the next few weeks.

An investigation of injuries to multiple State Police cadets during training last week results in the reassignment of three employees responsible for training. There are accusations the injuries resulted from hazing, but State Police Colonel Kevin Reeves would not label the incidents as such. He did say the training went beyond “normal parameters.”

The National Weather Service gives an area of low pressure near the Bay of Campeche a medium chance of developing on its way to the northern gulf coast this weekend.

St Charles Parish authorities arrested the aunt of a two year that was left in a vehicle on October 4^th and charged her with negligent homicide. Police say 48-year-old Lezly Sanabria told them she thought someone else took her niece inside, but the child was left in the car in Destrehan while the aunt was shopping in Metairie. Sanabria was arrested Wednesday and transported to the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.

Some low pressure off the Yucatan Peninsula has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression according to the National Weather Service. NWS Slidell Meteorologist Michael Hill says it appears the system will move into our area late Friday night, and depending on which way the storm tilts over the next two days, we could be looking at a very wet weekend…

There is some good news though, Hill says the chance of a major development is low.

A woman is arrested in Breaux Bridge for impersonating a police officer.  48-year-old Christina Macdonald is accused of initiating a traffic stop.  Assistant Police Chief Terry Latiolais says the suspect flashed a badge to encourage another driver to pull over.

The investigation is ongoing as to how the suspect obtained the badge or if it was an official badge.

There has been a rise in women running for legislative seats in Louisiana, but the state still has the lowest percentage of seats assigned to females in the nation.  Kevin Barnhart has the story.

For the first time, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is doing in-state testing on harvested deer for the presence of chronic wasting disease, which has been found in deer in surrounding states.LDWF’s Johnathan Bordelon says the disease is a neurological infection that can be spread multiple ways, including deer to deer.

Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards and his Republican challenger Eddie Rispone have both released commercials as their run-off campaigns ramp up. Political consultant Roy Fletcher estimates 20-million dollars could be spent over the next month and the money will pour in from both national parties and governor associations, along with additional funding from partisan actors like George Soros and Charles Koch….

Police says freshman from the University of Alabama accused of calling a threat to Tiger Stadium admitted to doing so in an effort to stop the Tigers/Gators game because a friend was on the verge of losing a large bet. 19-year-old Connor Croll was booked into the Tuscaloosa Country jail early Sunday. Croll is being held without bond and is expected to face charges in Baton Rouge. No word on the amount of the wager.

Despite many women being on the recent ballot, Louisiana still has one of the lowest percentages of seats assigned to women in the state legislature. Ultimately, 77 women recently ran for legislative seats. UL Lafayette Poli Sci Professor Pearson Cross says there are multiple factors that contribute to rise of women candidates.

Cross says the national average of state legislative seats assigned to women is about 30% while in Louisiana it is about 16%.

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s office has arrested the aunt of a two-year-old child who was left in a hot car in Destrehan for about six hours. 48-year-old Lezly Sanabria has been charged with negligent homicide. Forecasters are keeping their eyes on the tropics as the National Hurricane Center has given a low-pressure system just off the coast of southern Mexico a 50-percent chance of developing into at least a tropical depression over the western and central Gulf of Mexico later this week. An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance plane is scheduled to investigate the system this afternoon.

State Police has suspended its defensive tactics training programming after several cadets at the Training Academy had to be treated for multiple injuries. One cadet reportedly had a fractured arm. State Police Colonel Kevin Reeves says this particular training session, which involves handcuffing and pressure point use is one of the most intense lessons of the curriculum…

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has set up a mechanism that allows hunters to test their harvested deer for the presence of chronic wasting disease, which has been found in deer in surrounding states. Hunters seeking to have their harvested deer tested for CWD can complete a form on the LDWF website and then for the cost of $37.50 can have tissue from the animal tested at the nearest LDWF Field office.

Sentencing has been delayed for the former LSU student who was convicted in the hazing death of Phi Delta Theta fraternity pledge Maxwell Gruver. Matthew Naquin is facing up to five years in prison after he was convicted of negligent homicide.
