However, the state dropped from 45^th to 49^th on the ACT, Louisiana is one of 15 states requiring all high school students to take the ACT and ranked 13^th among those, only ahead of Mississippi and Nevada. State Superintendent of Education John White says those results are a letdown.

The number one ranked LSU Tigers will play the second-ranked Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa on November 9^th. Alabama Coach Nick Saban says Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa will be a game-time decision after undergoing surgery last week to correct a high ankle sprain. Saban says he’s well aware of the challenge LSU presents

Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard speaks publicly, defending his decision to keep SWAT Commander Dennis Perkins on staff. Perkins and his wife are accused of sex crimes involving children. WBRZ uncovered a 2011 restraining order filed against Perkins over allegedly using his LPSO vehicle to stalk someone. Ard says they have no record of it.

Four contractors are expected to submit bids by Friday with plans on how to clear the site of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse.  New Orleans Fire Chief Tim McConnell says public safety priority, but there is still a focus on how to recover the two bodies that remain inside the structure.

A Monroe man is charged with seven counts of assisting escape and accessory after the fact in the escape of seven men from the Richland Parish Detention Center.  38-year old Trevor Toney is accused of helping seven inmates during their escape to Ouachita Parish on Monday. Investigators say Toney helped the inmates force their way out of the facility and then paid for a hotel room for them. All seven have been booked in the Ouachita Correctional Center as fugitives from justice.

The other big story is tonight’s gubernatorial debate between John Bel Edwards and his Republican challenger Eddie Rispone. It will air on Louisiana Public Broadcasting at seven P-M. Early voting for the November 16th election begins Saturday.

The nation’s report card ranks Louisiana between 44th and 49th in math and reading assessments. However, the report shows the state has made more improvement than any other state in 8th-grade math. State Superintendent of Education John White says the findings indicate the state is turning around.

A Baton Rouge TV station is reporting a Baton Rouge Police officer accused Perkins of inappropriately touching his 14-year-old stepdaughter in 2013. Ard says he questioned Perkins, who denied the allegation and today he defended his decision to retain Perkins…

Over 5,600 have signed an online petition requesting the cancellation of classes for Rapides Parish public and private schools on Friday. Parents and kids are saying students need a day to rest after ingesting large amounts of candy and coming down from a sugar high following Halloween fun on Thursday night.

Parents have a new app to keep their kids safe, Safe Virtual Neighborhoods, which lets them know when a sex offender tries to contact their children. St. Charles Sheriff Greg Champagne says all parents need to do is download the app and plug-in their children’s information and they’ll be forwarded any alerts.
