Former LSU center William Baker and McNeese forward Christian Shumate are both on the Pels Summer League Roster. Shumate played four years in Lake Charles, and now the Chicago native has another opportunity in the Bayou State.

The CEO of one of the finalists to build LSU’s new arena has been indicted in a federal case for bid-rigging a similar project at UT Austin. Oak View Group was able to subcontract its competitors and submit the sole qualified bid to build Texas’s Moody Center, which LSU officials have named as the inspiration for a new arena.

Former LSU star D-J LeMahieu is headed for a change of scenery. The Yankees designated the two-time batting champ for assignment. LeMahieu turns 37 on Sunday and is batting .266 this season.

The MLB Draft begins Sunday in Atlanta, and several national championship-winning Tigers will come off the board. Lefty ace Kade Anderson has been mocked first overall and ranks as the number one prospect on ESPN and second on MLB.com. Right-hander Anthony Eyanson could go towards the end of the first round, ranked 45th on ESPN and 40th by MLB.  Both rank flamethrower Chase Shores towards the end of day one selections. Infielders Daniel Dickinson and Jared Jones and D-H Ethan Frey all project to be early day two picks.

A long overdue honor for a Louisiana military hero who was killed in action more than eight decades ago. Marine Private First Class Harry LeBert was killed in June of 1944 during World War Two. His then unidentified remains were transferred to the Philippines in the 1950s then to Hawaii three years ago where DNA testing conclusively put LeBert’s name with his body.  Louisiana V-A Secretary Charlton Meginley says LeBert was interred July 2nd at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery.

The FEMA Review Council, which is looking to make major reforms to the federal disaster response agency, held its second meeting in New Orleans. Last month, President Trump said he wants to phase out FEMA after the current hurricane season. Governor Jeff Landry, who attended yesterday’s meeting, says the President’s goal is to have a competent and functional agency whether that’s FEMA or something else.

A 64-year-old Iranian woman living in New Orleans legally since 1978 has been freed from ICE custody after being detained for two weeks. Donna Kashanian was released following a robust letter-writing campaign orchestrated in part by New Orleans Republican State Representative Stephanie Hilferty, who says Kashanian is an upstanding member of the community.

Donna Kashanian was released from ICE custody following national outcry and outreach from elected officials from both parties, including New Orleans Republican State Representative Stephanie Hilferty.

Kashanian first came to the U.S. in 1978 on a student visa and applied for asylum after the shah was overthrown a year later. She eventually was allowed to remain in the U.S. as long as she checked in with immigration authorities, which she never failed to do.

Colorado State University researchers have decreased their hurricane season forecast. Experts are now predicting 16 named storms, including eight hurricanes and three major hurricanes, one less than the school’s initial prediction for each category. C-S-U lead researcher Phil Klotzbach says the wind shear and Saharan dust have deterred tropical formation so far this summer.

Colorado State updated its long term hurricane forecast and they are now calling for 16 named storms and eight hurricanes, one less in each category than their previous forecast. Lead researcher Phil Klotzbach says we are still looking at an active hurricane season…

Cotton was once Louisiana’s biggest crop as far as number of acres planted. But Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain says high production costs have made it difficult for cotton growers to make a profit. Strain says less than 100-thousand acres of cotton could be planted this year…

After 81 years since he was killed in World War Two, Private First Class Harry LeBert was finally laid to rest in Louisiana as he was interred at southwest Louisiana veteran’s cemetery. State Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Charlton Meginley says it took advances in forensic science to identify Lebert who’s remains spent decades in the Philippines. Meginley says while the LeBert family finally got closure countless others are waiting.

But Schultz says Commissioner Keith Gill is really pushing for Tech to leave Conference USA and join the Sun Belt.

Kashanian first came to the U-S in 1978 on a student visa and was allowed to stay in the U-S-A  to check in with immigration officials, and she never failed to do so. Kashanian got married in 1990 and the couple have a daughter. New Orleans state Representative Stephanie Hilferty says now that the 64-year-old is back home, she wants to make sure she stays home…

Two people, not wearing seatbelts, were killed in a head-on crash Tuesday night on Louisiana Highway 17 in Richland Parish. State Police says 28-year-old Billie Myers of Oak Grove and 59-year-old James Washington of Epps were not buckled up when an 18-year-old driver crossed the centerline for reasons still under investigation and slammed into Myers and Washington’s vehicle.

Researchers now say there’s a 31-percent chance of a major hurricane making landfall along the Gulf Coast. Klotzbach says Colorado State will release its final forecast August 6th, when activity historically ramps up.

Wind and solar power tax credits created during the Biden Administration are being phased out, thanks to the budget bill signed by President Trump. These tax credits help energy companies pay for projects that produce solar and wind energy. Dr. Greg Upton, the director of LSU’s Center for Energy Studies, says without this federal subsidy, ratepayers will have to pay for these investments, but the impact to the consumer is several years away.

University High-Baton Rouge two-way lineman Lamar Brown is set to make his college commitment at 12:15 p.m. tomorrow. Most outlets have Brown a top ten recruit, and ESPN has him as its top overall prospect. While LSU is the odds-on favorite to land Brown, given that his high school’s stadium is in Tiger Stadium’s shadow, Texas A-and-M is also very much in the mix.
