Louisiana will once again be rolling a float through the streets of Pasadena in the Tournament of Roses Parade. The 2026 float is titled “Gulf to Gumbo.” In the past, Louisiana’s floats have featured local musical stars, and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says this next one will be no exception.

Postpartum depression is a major issue among new mothers, and too many of them are not getting the care when they need it. That’s why the Louisiana Department of Health is offering a new program called TLC Moms. Surgeon General Dr. Ralph Abraham says it provides those women with a valuable resource.

Labor Day is a day off for most Louisiana workers. Jeff Palermo has a look at the state of employment in the Bayou State.

Bolstered by a stellar defensive performance, the Bayou Bengals beat the Clemson Tigers in the “other” Death Valley Saturday night, 17-10. Louisiana Tech shutout Southeastern Louisiana 24-0 on Saturday night in Ruston. The Bulldogs led 3-0 at half, but scored three touchdowns in the third quarter to put the game away. Tech starting quarterback Trey Kukuk (Q-kuhk) threw a touchdown pass and says offensive coordinator Tony Franklin came down from the press box to call plays from the sidelines in the second half…

When the college football polls are released tomorrow, LSU could be ranked number one and Tulane could be ranked in the Top 25 after a dominating win over Northwestern 23 to 3.

The Ragin Cajuns passing game was nonexistent in a 14-to-12 loss to Rice on Saturday night. New starting quarterback Walker Howard only threw for 88 yards and he was intercepted once. Howard also left the game late with an undisclosed injury.

McNeese’s offense was clicking in a 54-9 win over Louisiana Christian. New starting Q-B Jake Strong threw for 329 yards and three touchdowns and Coach Matt Viator became the winningest coach in school history with his 79th victory at McNeese…

For a fifth year in a row, Louisiana will showcase itself in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California, on New Year’s Day. The theme of the 2026 parade is “The Magic in Teamwork,” and Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser says the state’s float, “Gulf to Gumbo,” highlights the teamwork needed to make a delicious pot of a Louisiana staple.

American Idol runner-up John Foster, who is from West Baton Rouge Parish will be the musical performer on the float.

According to Tangipahoa Parish Government, one-point-nine million gallons of product has been retrieved as cleanup operations continue from the massive fire and explosion from the Smitty’s Supply facility in Roseland. EPA is conducting around the clock air monitoring and there is still no indication of any imminent threat to public health.

Economist Doctor Loren Scott expects job growth to continue in Lake Charles, Baton Rouge and parts of the New Orleans area, because the price of natural gas is cheap….

The Cajuns will look to rebound this Saturday night when they host McNeese.

Tulane had an impressive win on Saturday as they easily defeated Northwestern from the Big 10 23 to 3. The Green Wave’s new starting quarterback Jake Retzlaff threw for 152 yards and touchdown, he also rushed for 113 yards and a score. Tulane visits South Alabama this Saturday.

For the second straight home game, Louisiana Tech didn’t allow a point in a 24-to-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana. It was announced at halftime the Bulldogs will officially join the Sun Belt on July 1st. Tech is at LSU this Saturday.

Nicholls led Troy by a touchdown in the third quarter, but the Trojans scored 28 points in the fourth quarter to beat the Colonels 38 to 20.

McNeese had a school record 664 yards in a 54 to 9 win over Louisiana Christian. With the win, Matt Viator became the school’s all-time winningest coach.

C’Zavaian Teasett threw three touchdowns as Grambling easily defeated Langston 55 to 7 and Southern won its SWAC opener, beating Mississippi Valley State 34 to 29. Cam’Ron McCoy threw a TD pass and ran for another score.

That’s why the Louisiana Department of Health is now offering a new program called TLC Moms. Surgeon General Dr. Ralph Abraham says it provides those women with a valuable resource.

The ribbon has been cut on a new prison in Louisiana that will house female inmates. It’s located in the Iberville Parish town of St. Gabriel and it’s the called The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women.

That’s Warden Kristen Thomas who says the 160-million dollar facility enhances the state’s focus on providing rehabilitative, education, medical and mental health services.

The Louisiana Department of Health is offering a new program to help mothers suffering from Perinatal Depression. It’s called T-L-C Moms and it’s designed to offer support and resources for moms, families and caregivers facing pregnancy or postpartum depression and anxiety. Louisiana Surgeon General Doctor Ralph Abraham says there are several reasons why new mothers may experience postpartum depression.

LSU says law school dean Alena Allen is stepping down, but the school’s first Black law school dean says she is being targeted because of raising concerns about irregularities in the LSU law school finances. According to the Advocate, Allen is considering legal action against LSU.

 

Fifth year senior quarterback Garrett Nussmeier leads LSU into the other Death Valley tomorrow night as the ninth ranked Tigers take on fourth ranked Clemson. Coach Brian Kelly says they are counting on Nussmeier’s experience, and they are asking him to limit mistakes

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff deputies have made another arrest in the hit and run death of a six-year boy who was riding his scooter in his driveway back on August 13th near Slidell. Authorities originally arrested Cody Beaudette. But deputies say new information surfaced and vehicular homicide and hit and run charges against Beaudette were rescinded. Shortly after that announcement, the sheriff’s office announced the arrest of 40-year-old Connie Noel Estes and she will be charged with felony hit and run with death or serious bodily injury and felony obstruction of justice.

The EPA has confirmed toxic substances were found in nearby waters from last week’s Smitty’s Supply explosion. That’s according to FOX 8 television in New Orleans who says based on a report provided to them, arsenic, barium, chromium, lead and other hazardous materials were found in two water samples collected the day after the explosion. But the EPA continues to say there is no imminent threat to the public.
