A police chase in Lincoln Parish ends in the shooting death of the driver being pursued. Deputy Amanda Lyon with the Northeast Louisiana Sheriff’s Investigative Unit says deputies attempted a traffic stop Saturday night, but the driver instead took off.

The pursuit lasted for about 16 miles, ending near Paradise Point Lane where Deputies issued multiple commands for the suspect to drop the weapon, but LPSO says when the suspect made threatening movements, deputies discharged their firearms. The investigation is ongoing and the name of the victim has not yet been released.

We could see some tropical activity later this week. The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the Gulf but LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim isn’t expecting a big wind event.

LSU Head Coach Brian Kelly took the podium at SEC Football Media Days this morning. Expectations have been high for Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier in his second year starting. Joe Burrow and Jayden Daniels posted historic Heisman-winning seasons in year two. Kelly says while that’s a steep comparison, he expects Nussmeier’s experience to help him improve.

It’s official. Louisiana Tech is headed to the Sun Belt-bound after league officials voted to invite the Bulldogs this morning. The move was backed by Western schools like ULM and UL-Lafayette despite historic conflicts between the programs. Locked On Sun Belt Podcast host Dave Schultz expects the move to reignite heated in-state rivalries, especially in Lafayette.

But those life-saving measures proved to be futile, as the man was pronounced dead at the scene. No deputies were injured.

There are no signs of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine ending anytime soon. Republican Senator John Kennedy is calling on President Trump to support a bill that says countries who buy oil from Russia, can no longer do business with America and that legislation would cut off Russia’s ability to sell oil…

Kennedy says if America does not cut off Russia’s sale of oil, the war, could go forever. He says current sanctions on Russia are not enough.

 

Louisiana Tech is Sun Belt-bound after league officials voted to invite the Bulldogs this morning. Tech replaces Texas State as the Bobcats head to the PAC-12, but Sun Belt East schools preferred expansion into a new market over a third Louisiana program. But Locked On Sun Belt Podcast host Dave Schultz says most of the conference’s recent additions have been in the east.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the gulf for the possibility of some tropical activity later this week. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says as of right now, the odds of a tropical system forming are fairly low.

Keim says regardless of development this will be a rain maker along the northern Gulf toward the middle and end of this week.

The Bulldogs will likely leave Conference USA after this athletic season and the departure from CUSA would cost Tech a reported five million dollars. This would be La Tech’s second stint in the Sun Belt. They were in that league from 1991 to 2001 before leaving for the WAC.

He expects quarterback Garrett Nussmeier to improve in year two.

Southern University defensive end Ckelby Givens was named the preseason SWAC Defensive Player of the Year. Givens leads the nation in tackles for loss with 26-and-a-half and ranked eighth last season in sacks.

LSU lefty Kade Anderson went third overall to the Mariners in the first round of the MLB Draft yesterday. The 21-year-old was expected to be the top pick to the Nationals, who instead selected high school shortstop Eli Willits.  Anderson celebrated the moment with his family in Madisonville.

Right-handed pitcher Chase Shores was also selected 47th overall by the Angels. Righty Anthony Eyanson went to the Red Sox with pick 87, and D-H Ethan Frey was selected by the Astros with the 95th pick.

Louisiana Tech is returning to the Sun Belt after conference leaders voted to officially invite the Bulldogs this morning. Tech was previously art of the league from 1991 to 2001 before departing for the WAC. The earliest LA Tech can make the move is 2026, the same year Texas State departs for the PAC-12. The Bulldogs will have to pay the five-million-dollar buyout from Conference USA.

For the first time ever, the number of Republican active registered voters in Louisiana exceeds the number of Democratic active registered voters. Andrew Greenstein reports.

The National Hurricane Center says an area of low press off the east coast of Florida has a low chance to developing into a tropical depression once it moves into the northeastern Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday night. Forecasters say the system could produce localized flash flood over the north-central Gulf through the middle to the latter portion of this week.

Lyon says the pursuit lasted for about 16 miles, coming to an end on U.S. 167 near Paradise Point Lane, when the suspect exited the vehicle and refused to put down his weapon and then pointed it at deputies and Lyon says that’s when officers fired at him. The man died at the scene.

Dr. Fred Lopez, a professor of medical education at the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, says your very best defense against the highly contagious and deadly disease is to get vaccinated – the vaccines will at least keep symptoms down to a minimum.

SEC football media days kick off today. One big storyline is the future format of the College Football Playoff. It will almost certainly expand to 16 teams for the 2026 season. It didn’t go as exactly as planned, but LSU left-hander Kade Anderson is still excited about the team that drafted him. The Washington Nationals and the Los Angeles Angles both passed on the D-1 baseball National College Pitcher of the Year, which allowed the Mariners to grab Anderson with the third overall pick. Seattle’s V-P of Amateur Scouting Scott Hunter. says they are thrilled Anderson dropped to them…

The Los Angeles Angels used their second round pick to take LSU flame throwing right hander Chase Shores. Fellow right-hander Anthony Eyanson went in the third round to the Boston Red Sox and Designated hitter-slash-outfielder Ethan Frey from Rosepine also went in the third round to the Astros.

Today could be a monumental day for Louisiana Tech athletics as the Sun Belt schools will vote on whether to invite the Bulldogs into the Sun Belt. The votes are reportedly there, despite resistance from schools in the East Division over having three schools from Louisiana in the Sun Belt.

SEC Media Days begin today in Atlanta. We will hear from Commissioner Greg Sankey this morning and he’ll likely talk about the future of the college football playoff which is expected to expand to 16 teams in 2026. The Big 10 and the SEC have previously pushed for each league to receive four automatic qualifiers but the Host of the Locked on SEC Podcast, Chris Gordy, says there is a movement for five automatic qualifiers, all going to conference champions and then 11 at-large bids…
