That’s Lt. Colonel Noel Collins, who says Captain Beauregard fought with the Third Regiment of the Louisiana Militia against the British Army in the Battle of New Orleans in 1815.

Landry says there simply wasn’t enough money for all the projects the legislature gave him.

Democrats have said dozens of rural hospitals will close because of President Trump’s spending bill. But executive director of the Louisiana Rural Hospital Coalition, Jeff Reynolds, says hospitals are not in danger of closing anytime soon and a hospital closing is extremely rare….

The governor has also announced that the Louisiana National Guard Training Center in Pineville will go back to being called Camp Beauregard. The installation’s name was changed in 2022, because the facility was named after a Confederate General. Now the training center will be named after Captain Jacques Toutant Beauregard, a member of the Louisiana Milita who fought in the 1815 Battle of New Orleans.

Last week on KEEL Radio in Shreveport, state senator Alan Seabaugh said Governor Jeff Landry has been a huge disappointment. That strong statement came after the governor used his line-item veto power to take state funding away from four projects in Seabaugh’s district. It’s been reported that Landry’s line-item veto pen was used to cancel funding for pet projects in the districts of Republican lawmakers who voted against an insurance reform bill the governor supported.

There’s concern about rural hospitals in the wake of the passage of the tax and spending bill in Congress. But Jeff Reynolds, the executive director of the Louisiana Rural Hospital Coalition, says none are in danger of closing because the cuts don’t kick in right away.

Landry said as such, some projects had to go, and Seabaugh’s projects got the short end of the stick. While one legislative reporter found that Landry’s line-item vetoes were aimed at projects put forth by lawmakers who voted against House Bill 148, Landry gave a different reason.

Landry says the reason that Seabaugh is criticizing him is because he’s mad at him for vetoing his Senate Bill 111, which would have watered down Louisiana’s “bad faith” law, which holds insurance companies responsible for unreasonably delaying or denying claims.

The governor’s office says TSA will again review Louisiana’s LA Wallet to ensure it remains compliant with federal privacy and security standards.

Landry also says Louisiana Office Motor of Vehicles Director Bryan Adams and his team have made upgrades to the OMV computer system to prevent the service disruptions that hampered the state agency earlier this year.

LSU players recapped the offseason and previewed the 2025 campaign at SEC Media Days yesterday. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier says this year’s roster is the closest he’s been a part of.

Nussmeier is the only returning 4,000-yard passer in college football, but with a year’s worth of tape to study, he expects to improve in year two under center. The gunslinger threw 12 interceptions last year and says he can do a better job taking care of the football.

Wide receiver Chris Hilton projects to be the Tigers’ top receiver this season after struggling with injuries in his collegiate career. Hilton arrived in Baton Rouge the same year as Nussmeier and says he’s seen his quarterback grow off the field.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the gulf for the possibility of some tropical activity later this week. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says whatever does eventually happen likely will not have much of a major impact on the Louisiana coast.

Keim says if anything, this will be a rainmaker, with the biggest likelihood being late in the week and into the weekend.

A police chase in Lincoln Parish ends with deputies shooting and killing the driver they were chasing. Deputy Amanda Lyon with the Northeast Louisiana Sheriff’s Investigative Unit says the pursuit lasted for about 16 miles, coming to an end on U.S. 167 near Paradise Point Lane.

But instead, the man pointed his gun at deputies, who shot him. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the biggest question marks for LSU football going into this season is the offensive line, having lost four of last year’s starters to the NFL. Coach Brian Kelly says his staff has been preparing the next generation since Will Campbell and Emery Jones started as freshmen.

Louisiana Tech is officially Sun Belt-bound after league officials voted to invite the Bulldogs this morning. Locked On Sun Belt Podcast host Dave Schultz says this is a departure, since most of the conference’s recent additions had been in the east.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the gulf for the possibility of some tropical activity later this week. LSU Public Health Climatologist Barry Keim says as of right now, the odds of a tropical depression forming are low.

He doesn’t expect high winds or storm surge, but we could see a heavy rain event late in the week and into the weekend.

A Carencro man is one point four six million dollars richer after taxes thanks to the Powerball ticket he bought in Lafayette Forth of July weekend. Fermon Bonin was one number away from winning the 192.4-million-dollar jackpot. The Lafayette convenience store where he bought the ticket is excited too since they receive a $20,000 bonus for selling the ticket.

Louisiana Tech is officially Sun Belt-bound after league officials voted to invite the Bulldogs this morning to replace Texas State who are heading to the PAC-12. The Bulldogs are the tenth team to leave Conference USA since 2022. Locked On Sun Belt Podcast host Dave Schultz says LA Tech needs to reinvest the money it will save from regional rivalries to compete in one of the top mid-major conferences.

Heavy Rain could have been a factor in a single vehicle accident that took the lives of two LA Tech exchange students from Nepal. State police are investigating the accident that happened Sunday night on Hwy 80 during heavy rain. The driver and a passenger were killed when their Honda Accord traveled off the road before striking a tree and becoming engulfed in flames. Two other passengers were treated at an area hospital. The accident is under investigation. La Tech officials remind students that counseling services are available for those who need them.

LSU football brought in 18 veterans in the top-ranked transfer class this offseason. Head Coach Brian Kelly expects the class to bolster a defensive unit he acknowledged improved last season, but not to a championship level. He spoke at SEC media days this morning and says defensive coordinator Blake Baker is elite, and his players should be as well.
