Congresswoman Julia Letlow has filed legislation that would help agricultural producers impacted by disruptions to the global trade market. She says the legislation already has the support of the House Agriculture Committee.

The 5th District Republican says the bill would create a dedicated fund that would allow the Trump Administration to respond swiftly to trade-related losses.

It was a rather unusual shoplifting arrest at the grand opening of a new Tractor Supply store in Ponchatoula. Ashley Rodrigue with the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Theresa Prine was confronted by the owner for trying to leave without paying, when hooved heroes Caddy and Yella took notice.

The longtime voice of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs has died. Dave Nitz passed away this morning at the age of 82. Nitz called his final Tech game last year — a Bulldog baseball home game. Current broadcaster Malcolm Butler says Nitz and his signature call were a tough act to follow.

Among the bills Landry signed during a ceremony at Moncla Well Services in Lafayette was one that addressed legacy lawsuits by encouraging parties to admit responsibility in damaging the state’s coastline and work towards remediation.

Landry also signed a bill that reduced the severance tax on all new oil drilling projects from 12 and a half percent to six and a half percent.

The horses of the mounted division of the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office aren’t just for parades. Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Rodrigue says 35-year-old Theresa Prine was met by the mounted division as she allegedly tried to leave the new Tractor Supply Store in Ponchatoula without paying for a cart full of merchandise worth over 12-hundred-dollars.

The mounted division detained Prine until the Ponchatoula Police Department arrived.

The races will go on at the Fairgrounds after the Louisiana State Racing Commission held an emergency meeting in New Orleans today.  Churchill Downs had threatened to not renew its racing license unless the state provided a subsidy to cover loses Churchill Downs claimed were due to the loss of revenue from horse racing machines at Off Track sites that were deemed illegal several years ago. The State of Louisiana has not agreed to any funding, but talks are continuing. Races at the Fairgrounds, one of the nation’s oldest tracks, will run from November 20^th through March 22^nd.

A native of West Virginia, Nitz arrived in Ruston in the spring of 1974 when he called his first Bulldog baseball game, an NCAA Regional matchup at old Arlington Stadium. LA Tech broadcaster Malcolm Butler says Nitz was a professional in every sport, but baseball was his passion…

LSU is getting ready to throw a celebration for its baseball team that just won the College World Series for the eighth time. It will be held tomorrow night at seven at Alex Box Stadium. Sad news to report, the former longtime Voice of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, Dave Nitz, has passed away at the age of 82. The West Virginia native spent 50 years of his life calling Louisiana Tech football, basketball and baseball games. His trademark phrase was “You Gotta Love It.” Nitz is a former affiliate relations director at Louisiana Network.
