LSU pitcher Kade Anderson has been named Baseball America’s 2025 Pitcher of the Year. Anderson commanded the mound for the Tigers this season with a nation-leading 180 strikeouts in 119 innings. The sophomore finished the season with a 12-and-1 record and 3.18 ERA. He’ll have a chance to go number one overall in the MLB Draft July 13.

A performer for the Super Bowl halftime show has been arrested after for allegedly causing a disturbance during the performance back in Febrary.  State police say the 41 year old performer allegedly broke from his role and ran across the field with a “Sudan and Free Gaza” flag.  We’re told he surrendered to state police yesterday and was booked into the Orleans Parish Jail.

LSU added two left handed pitchers to next year’s staff in the transfer portal yesterday. Tennessee freshman Ryler Smart redshirted his lone season in Knoxville recovering from Tommy John surgery. Smart was a top 200 recruit out of Pearland Texas. North Dakota State freshman Danny Lachenmayer totaled a 2.37 ERA in 24 appearances with nine saves for the Bison. He struck out 56 and allowed 25 hits in 38 innings.

The Pelicans wrapped up their first draft under new President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars yesterday. New Orleans selected Georgetown wing Micah Peavy with the 40th overall pick acquired from the Wizards in the Jordan Poole trade. The 23-year-old averaged 17 points per game last season shooting 40% from three with the Hoyas. The super senior also added over 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals a game. Peavy told ESPN he’s one of the best defenders in this year’s draft…

Peavy rounds out an aggressive draft class from the Pelicans featuring Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears and Maryland center Derik Queen who were picked 7th and 13th overall Wednesday.

Among other things, it will ban certain artificial colors and additives in meals served in schools, and it would require restaurants to disclose whether their food is cooked in seed oil. McMath says this bill goes farther than any other bill in the country, and that’s what’s bringing Secretary Kennedy here.

McMath says the fact that the bill passed unanimously in both houses of the legislature shows that the Make America Healthy Again movement transcends ideological lines.

Temple says some key legislation signed by Governor Landry which go into effect down the road includes consumer-transparency bills like HB 345, which calls for a 60‑day notice before cancellation, and SB 136, which calls for rate transparency — alongside tort-reform measures targeting frivolous lawsuits.

HB 345 goes into effect July 1st, 2026, while SB 136 doesn’t take effect until the outset of 2027. Reflecting on the past legislative session, Temple says he’s most excited about the passage of House Bill  431, which moves Louisiana from a pure to a modified comparative fault.

Longtime St. Thomas More basketball coach Danny Broussard will also be inducted. Broussard is the sixth all-time winningest high school basketball coach in the country after 42 years in Lafayette. Attorney General Liz Murrill is demanding an investigation of the Caddo Parish Commission for issuing a proclamation welcoming Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders to Shreveport. Murrill says there was no mention of the resolution on any meeting agenda, and that’s a violation of the Open Meetings Act. Loyola University New Orleans Law Professor Dane Ciolino says there is merit to Murrill’s claims.

A recent traffic stop in St. Tammany Parish is going viral on social media. Lieutenant Carli Messina says Deputy Dustin Byers pulled a driver over on Highway 21 near Bogalusa for speeding, and he noticed something about the driver.

Loyola University Law Professor Dane Ciolino says there is merit to Murrill’s claims but it’s important to note that this is different from a mayoral proclamation.

A St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy is receiving a lot of social media attention following a photo of a traffic stop. The driver who was traveling to a funeral was going 20 miles over the speed limit and the photo shared over 2500 times shows Deputy Dustin Byers tying that driver’s tie for him.

A proclamation by the Caddo Parish Commission welcoming Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders to Shreveport last weekend has drawn the ire of Attorney General Liz Murrill, and she’s ordered the Louisiana Department of Justice to open an investigation. Andrew Greenstein reports.

Murrill also announced today that she has filed a petition seeking full Fifth Circuit review of Louisiana’s Ten Commandments law. Last week, a 3 judge panel of the fifth circuit court of appeals upheld a lower court ruling blocking the law that would require all public classrooms display the Commandments.

Months after a man interrupted the Super Bowl half-time show as he waved a Sudanese flag across the Superdome field, an arrest has been made.  State Police say 41-year-old Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu turned himself in Thursday and was booked on charges of resisting an officer and disturbing the peace by interruption of a lawful assembly. Investigators said Nantambu, a hired Superbowl extra, broke from his role, retrieved a flag with the message “Sudan and Free Gaza,” and ran across the field during the live performance.
